Aussie glam bands

Just wondering whether any of you glam fans around the world have heard any of the new crop of Australian glam bands breaking into the scene?

For example...

The Deadthings: horror-glam (like roxx gang meets pretty boy floyd meets murderdolls)

Teargas: melodic hair metal (like bon jovi meets danger danger meets dokken)

Sebasrockets: trashy glam punk (early motley crue meets backyard babies meets new york dolls)

Hell City Glamours: glam with bluesy influence (faster pussycat meets hanoi rocks)

There are a few more around but these are the cream of the crop in my opinion.

Anyone heard em yet, and if so what are your thought on them?

FROM THAT LIST I'LL LIKED A LOT HELL CITY GLAMOURS!!! BUT YA FORGOT TO MENTION PERHAPS THE BAND WHICH SEEMS TO BE THEIR BIGGEST INFLUENCE OR PERHAPS BY CASUALITY THEY SOUNDS A LOT LIKE IT: D.A.D.

The Deadthings EP is quite good, their image is cool too.

The Deadthings EP 'When Hell Sleazes Over' is more "punk" than what they are now. One of the members (now in boydotcom) had a more punk background, but since he has left the band has taken a far more glam direction. Vocals of much better now, and the sound is a lot less dirty than appeared on that EP.
Keep an eye out for thier debut album later in the year.

I like The Deadthings! Nikk Murder used to post here a lot a while back also.

One of my ALL time fave Australian bands were Voodoo Lovecats. Especially their early demos `Punk N Disorderly` and `Desperate And Dateless` (I think those were the titles). Australia's answer to Glamour Punks and Queeny Blast Pop back then.

Sorry GJ can't say I've heard of any of 'em!

Australia is more know for the rock/hard'n roll bands but what I've heard from the glam scene is truly excellent .I have the HELL CITY GLAMOURS 's EP "LEs infid?les" and I love this one.
From what you say about the 3 others I'll try to discover Sebasrockets, and the melodic rock band. Concerning the Deadthings... I'm not that much on the Murderdolls trip... but I saw that on their website I can hear a tune so I'll give them a try (and I adore Roxx Gang & PBF).

Marky, D :: A :: D ain't from Australia ! But they're simply the best rockin' band in Europe (what ? I'm a fan & I'm not objective, so what ?). Disneyland After Dark from Denmark, the suburbs of Copehangen exactly. And they're simply Danish And Dynamite !

Quite like the Candy Harlots though not sure if they are still going.

I like the Deadthins cd -pretty cool. Haven't heard the others though

Only Aussie glam band I've heard is CelaFain Vain. Remind me a bit of Star Star, plus they have a song called "Bang the clown" so it's all good hah hah.

This is the bio I got from the guy who sold the CD on eBay, more than a touch of tongue-in-cheekness & it's pretty funny...

"Celafain Vain were formed in 1997 by guitarist Jay Foxxx and drummer Niki Vain (both formerly of Jizzwizz) after extensive searching and auditioning for suitable members who shared their glamorous aspirations and silver tainted visions they found bassist extraodinaire Cherri Bang (ex-Lusty Ladz) working in a local adult book store. With all the musical elements now in place it was August 1998 when they literally stumbled across local heart-throb vocalist Kelli Koltt (ex-Vanity Mirrorz) in a back alley in the small redneck town of Ballarat. Koltt had slipped out of the local stripclub Jo-Jo?s to reapply his foundation and lipstick when the 3 other members met up with him, stunned by his beauty they struck up a conversation and they soon realized he had what it took to join their mascarra clad ensemble of mayhem.

Basing themselves initially in Ballarat they rehearsed for many months honing their tunes which paid unbridled homage to Poison, Kiss, T-Rex, Motley Crue, Max Factor and Revlon. Unfortunately in the redneck town of Ballarat the local street gangs had a hard time dealing with four beautiful people walking their city by night and pillaging their women like some wanton pirates of love. These beloved prima donnas of glitter were made of stronger stuff though and many back street brawls took place against these misguided redneck hoodlums, luckily in all the ensuing violence none of the boys distinctively androgynous features were scarred, however after some consideration and advice from the authorities it was decided the boys must leave their town and were banished to the big city lights of Melbourne.

The band were still in their formative stages and as a result had to rely on the generosity of the local ladies of the night and their welfare payments to make ends meet - their money spent on make up, prophylactics, drugs, alcohol and rehearsal rooms in that order! It was after a particularly seedy night that the boys met their soon to be manager and local porn movie producer Glenn Odin in the local free clinic. It was Odin who put them in touch with Jimmy Agates of Derelete Records a subsidiary of major label Shock. Agates was so impressed with these guys that he offered them a 3 album record deal without hearing a single note. The band immediately went into the studio to lay down 4 demo tracks just to get a feel for the recording technique. Copies of this demo made it into the hands of both EMI and Sony?s A&R honchos who spent countless weeks wining and dining the band in an effort to lure them from the smaller Derelete record label.
Staying true to themselves and their fans the band resisted the lure of excessive 6 figure deals and showed their loyalty and faith to both Odin and Agates by finally signing with Derelete for an undisclosed amount rumored to be in excess of $300,000.

Early 1999 saw a full album of original material recorded in a hectic eight week period with local engineer Adam Calaitzis manning the boards with all 4 of the glamorous ones overseeing the production. It was towards the end of these sessions that things took a turn for the worse during a rather long session of boozing and illicit substance abuse vocalist Kelli Koltt passed out and was found weeks later by police ensconced in the underground cult organization Life Mechanics. How Koltt became embroiled in their evil ways is still a mystery yet somehow he was lured back to the studios to finish his vocal parts only to once again disappear some days later along with the master tapes of the album never to be seen again. To this day he remains on the missing persons list and coincidentally the Life Mechanics organization moved their dealings overseas soon after. Cherri Bang amazingly recovered the master tapes after an advertisement was placed in local industry publication Beat magazine offering a substantial reward. What became of Koltt is still a mystery but the music of Celafain Vain lives on in the hearts and ears of fans and the remaining members who after Koltt?s disappearance disbanded and have refused to be involved in any other musical ventures since. Cherri Bang is now working as CEO of Derelete Productions and moonlighting as a local catwalk model while Niki Vain is travelling the globe as a beauty consultant to the stars. Jay Foxxx meanwhile has unfortunately fared less successfully and is now homeless and destitute and can be occasionally spotted busking on the city streets of Melbourne a former shadow of his once glamorous self only recognizable by the fact that he still wears full make up even when performing in front of 2 or 3 people in a shopping mall for small change.

So a once bright future turned into a chequered past but the music remains as a timeless reminder of what could have been for our four heroes of the glam underworld.

Yes... I love Celafain Vain.
Well, for those of you that like Celafain Vain, check out sebasrockets cos 2 of the CF member are now in Sebasrockets. Whereas I would describe Celafain Vain as Star*Star meets Big Bang Babies, Sebasrockets have a bit more of a punky edge to them. If anyone is interested in getting their album i could probably help you out there as I kinda know a couple of the guys.

Yeah, Voodoo Lovecats are classics. I don;t spose you've got their 2 early demo EPs transferred to CD? I have the original demos on cassette but would love them on cdr if anyone has them.

Also, The Deadthings was formed by (I think it was) 2 former members of the lovecats. Anyway, there is still 1 member of lovecats in deadthings so it's probably worth checking them out if you liked lovecats.

I'm know these guys pretty well so if you're after their EP, let me know and I can probably hook ya up. PM me if you're interested.

DeArrow... i don't have any of their stuff, but I think you're right - pre roxus. Some of the members of Roxus went on to form Chocolate Starfish, and released a few albums.

As for Aussie bands;
That Celefane Vain bio is hilarious, very funny indeed.I really liked their stuff. I'm pretty sure that when The Sebasrockets started they were playing a few songs from the Celefane Vain days. The singer from Celefane Vain was the origional bassist from the Voodoo Lovecats (in the demo era) he went on to another band recently called the R.I.P Rides, we played with them a few times live, they were a bit more AC/DC vibe, but still cool. They recently called it quits.

De-Arrow is pre & post Roxus, they had Dragan Stanic in De-Arrow and a couple of De Arrow songs made the Roxus "NightStreet" album, when Dragan left De-Arrow to join Roxus, Joe Cool (original Roxus gtrst) joined Dea Arrow, it was kind of weird. De-Arrow kept playing a while and there are quite a few demos that were recorded. But all the people i know keep them well guarded unfortunatly. I had heard they were looking to release them on a european label, but haven't heard much more about it in a while.

There was also another Roxus album recorded after "Nightstreet" but never released. It was recorded with Jeff Paris as co-songwriter and producer. It is a full album, i have heard a couple of tracks and they were excellent. Wish i had a copy. Again i heard they were looking for a euro release of it but who knows

I love VL's cd CSPWDT. The double cd sorta' sucked, though. There was one song on there that I liked, I think.

*our hero busts a move* I KILLED HER IN ST. KILDA!!!! btw, am I the only guy to think that three mixes of that song on one EP was just a tad excessive? BDC's version was good, if a bit underproduced. [img]wink.gif[/img]

Thought I'd chime in for a post since it's been a while since my last one, hope everyone I knew on here is doing well!!!

Anyway, I'm glad you guys like the Deadthings, but just for the record....I ain't left BDC!!!

Also, the 2 Lovecats guys were Chaos (LVH) and Eman who started up The Deadthings when I was first in the band anyway, also, Sebasrockets don't have any Lovecats members and the CV member never did a damn thing with Lovcats except a few rehearsals and maybe a couple of shows at the beginning, how do I know this, I was their drummer at the time when they were first putting it together but I never did anything recording wise or live with them as I was in another band at the time and wasn't into the whole glam thing to the extent the other guys in Voodoo were...No link to Sebasrockets anyway.

Ostraylia is eternally sunny and eternally laid
back. They're also starved of tours because pro-
moters can't be arsed risking the money to send
them there. I can't think of a more fertile ground
for happy glam bands to exist. The glam bands them-
selves may be rubbish (I don't know) but Southern
Sons, Roxus, D'Mont, et al. were lovely.

Melbourne's soon-to-be-huge The Five Venoms are
fucking amazing, allegedly.

I don't think anyone actually claimed Chocolate Starfish as being a glam band. The only mention of them was when I said member(s) of roxus joined Chocolate Starfish after Roxus dispanded.

If you read the thread, a lot of those bands are being descirbed as AOR, Meloidc & Hard Rock.... and NOT glam.
