My comments: the 49ers need defensive secondary help, and Williams is probably the best on the board at their pick and even in the draft...but I don't like his attitude. Hopefully he'll go somewhere like the Rams or something. I'd honestly take Michael Huff at DB, Vernon Davis at TE, or Santonio Holmes at WR before I would Williams.
Three Canes in the first round with more to come in the 2nd & 3rd. With a good combine, any of the 3 could go higher, especially Winston.

Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
Titans will get Vince Young!!!
They need a QB, McNair is getting old....
-
Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
Young says hes coming back to Texas. Even after last night.
-
Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
Yep, Vince Young has stated he's going to be back in Texas next year.
However, dont think in this off season a few people wont talk to him and may switch his mind and take him straight into the draft.
-
Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
I also dont see Baltimore going with a running back in the draft. They need a QB. Also, I'm thinking Cleveland will trade so they can get A.J. Hawk.
-
Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
Which QB would you like for Baltimore to get? I mean, let's say Leinart, Young, and Cutler are all in the draft--do they trade up to get one of the 3, or who would be the next best QB that they could get in the first round? Remember...Drew Brees for SD was a 2nd round pick b/c of bad combines and depth at QB that draft year. Besides the injury he's doing pretty well...so they can get a QB in the 2nd round...but who's the next best guy coming out? Jacobs maybe?
-
Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
There is no chance the Raiders will draft Ryans. They'll go for the biggest, flashiest, piece of crap player on the table at that time.
For all intensive purposes that appears to be Williams from VT.
And if Paul Posluszny drops that low, I will be greatly surprised.
-
Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
is Darrell Hackney from UAB a senior?
-
Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
Id LOVE to see Oakland take Williams and SF take Ryans.
AND....... I think Holmes goes higher after the fiesta bowl performance.
-
Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
It will happen, don't worry.
Ryans is a beast, but the Raiders win and lose on the big play, so his tough as nails making a play, every play will not interest them. They will draft Williams. No doubt about it.
If I were in the market for a QB, I'd wait 3 years, and draft Cantwell from UL as a Senior. This kid showed more heart and determination as a freshman than I have seen from any team I have followed in the last 15 years.
-
Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
Anybody seen Vernon Davis play? He must be awesome. Im not impressed with Marcedes Lewis as a 1st round pick. Byrd is just as good as a 2nd. Im not really sold on Leonard Pope either.
Baltimore wont draft a 1st round tailback because Chester Taylor is damn good regardless of Jamal Lewis.

/paging pvfan to give Twerp info
pvfan can tell you more, but VD is a beast. Guy dominated the FSU LB's and secondary when they tried to cover him. I remember one of FSU's DB's trying to tackle him and Davis basically stiff armed him from standing to flat on his back--slammed him down, and all while breaking another tackle. The guy is 6'3, 253, and runs a 4.41 forty...absolute physical freak.
-
Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
Davis is a bad man...he is not as big as a usual TE, but he is fast enough to become a receiver at the next level if he gets his speed up just a tad
-
Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
I dont see 3 canes in the first round, I see Winston and thats it. Harris is garbage, Moss is undersized.
This mock sucks imo, they are missing Daryn College, Martin Nance(who may be the best WR in the draft), Laron Landry, Jonathon Scott, or Darnell Bing. I think Jean Gilles and Davin Joseph could both be 1st rounders too. Joseph played LT this year so he is beyond versatile as the next pro bowl guard in the nfl.
-
Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
Not as big? TE's in the NFL run between 6'2 and 6'5, and usually weigh anywhere from 250 to 260. This guy is 6'3 253, that's about right in the middle of the bell curve. He's not massive, but if he needs weight I think he can put it on. This guy will make several Pro Bowls, esp. if he goes to an NFC team, because it's going to be hard to unseat Gonzalez or Gates in the AFC.
-
Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
im not sayin he wont be good...he'll be dang good and he's the best TE on the board
however i question that weight number of 253...if true, then he could carry 275 and not lose any speed
-
Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
VD tossing a Nole about 5 yards (video clip)
Not only that, but your more successful NFL TE's stats are as such...
Jason Witten - 6'5, 261
Jeremy Shockey - 6'5, 253
Heath Miller - 6'5, 256
Alge Crumpler - 6'2, 262
Dallas Clark - 6'3 252
Alex Smith (TB) - 6'4 258
Tony Gonzalez - 6'5 251
Antonio Gates - 6'4 260
I'm not questioning whether or not you said Davis was gonna be good or not, I was questioning the undersized and possible move to WR thought, given his physical stature stacks up in the range of some of the more successful TE's.
If all of these guys are excelling in the league at between 6'2 & 6'5, and 251 & 262, then why in the world would:
a) 6'3, 253 be undersized, and
b) Davis need to gain 22 pounds to go up to 275?
Not trying to flame you dude, just showing you why I questioned what you said.
EDIT: One other comparison is the Hokies' beloved Jeff King, at a paltry 6'5 and 253. If only that guy would have been playing at 275... Just messin w/ya bro...

Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
i just think he looks more like David Boston than any of those TEs is all
-
Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
David Boston is another one of those genetic freaks...but he's definitely a WR going 6'2 and 228 per his NFL.com profile. VD's got the beef to play TE...no doubt.
-
Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
Baltimore needs to get the QB in the first round. I mean I've backed Boller, but he just hasn't ever shown up to play. A game here and there doesn't cut it in the NFL.
Baltimore trades up in the draft.... trade Jamal Lewis for a higher draft pick..Chester Taylor is Baltimore's future at running back.... but do NOT take Leinart, look at Kellen Clemens or wait til next season and draft from the great class of QB's next year. If all the Juniors stay in for one more year, next year is full of QB's, with each having something extra to offer to a team.
-
Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
baltimore may not have to trade to get kellen clemens. But they might want to trade and get AJ Hawk. Ray Ray is almost done for in the NFL.
-
Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
If Young does decide to come out into the draft no way Leinart will go ahead of Vince.
-
Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
-
Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
I dont see Leinart being top 7 draft picks... but hey somebody may take him to be a 2nd/3rd string QB to build with.

Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
I'm liking Lendale White to Pittsburgh. Bettis will almost certainly retire and I'm still not sure about Willie Parker. I'll be shocked if the Steelers draft offense in the first round for 3 years in a row.
I usually dread their first round draft choices except for the last two years.
-
Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
I think Lendale would be a great fit for Pittsburgh, I do like Willie Parker, but I'm like you 89bluedevil I'm not sold on him yet. Deuce and Bettis have seen thier better days, but can still contribute. If the Steelers were to get White I would be tickled to death.
Sorry to hijack the thread but, has Bettis or the Steelers already decided to move in another direction?
-
Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
I think Jamal Lewis would be the perfect Steeler, I think he will return to his old form too. Personally I think going to prison in the offseason destroyed this season for him.
-
Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
I agree Mega, but I'm not to sure the Steelers would take a chance with Jamal, but with the Steelers line he would return to previous years form. I think alot of his problems this year was because the Ravens had no passing game, and everyone loaded the box on them. Other than Ogden (sp?) the Ravens O-line is pathetic.
-
Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
I think youre right. It would probably be a big risk to take. I do think that Pittsburgh could stand to have a feature back though.(A guy that can be used in the redzone, where they take Parker out)

No doubt Davis is a freak. I think he eats dumbbells from the looks of him. He should be a good TE if he catches the ball well in the NFL.

Davis to chicago.
I really hate Marcedes Lewis though, just look at his big stat line against Northwestern.
-
Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
Davis is a freak and will turn a team around...Jay Cutler is someone a lil under the radar now but mark my words someone will pick up a gem when they draft him
-
Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
Too bad Cutler won't fall to 18th!
-
Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
Who's the 18th team in the draft

Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
Hackney is a senior, trio.
-
Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
think he could be a late first rounder?
-
Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
Watching an interview on ESPN with Larry Johnson and he was asked how he felt when his favorite team the Steelers passed on him in the draft. What! Would have loved to have this guy in black and gold.
-
Re: It's early but...Initial Mock 2006 Draft
Sorry Stripes if Cutler goes to the Boys I'll stop pullin for him
