Heard they booed castlewood when castlewood ran out. That's pretty bad hahaha

Tremendous rivalry between Twin Springs and Castlewood.

The same thing happened the other night in the LPD tournament between Coeburn and Gate City. Both team's fans booed the other team.

how things have changed... i rem back in 99 when clintwood and pound were in regionals at castlewood when clintwood came back and upset council and near the end of pound's game , clintwood and pound fans starting chanting LPD,LPD....it was a great nite for the LPD

I expect the Twin Springs - Gate City game to get very ugly. There is so much rivalry here.

Twin Springs has had tremendous success in basketball, and I've never seen any fans who hate to lose more than Gate City.

This could be GC's year to avenge some losses though.

It was pretty heated last year, but I don't remember it getting ugly.

Oh it was! I was on the upper balcony above the Twin Spring's session. During the last minute or so of the game, TS pulled ahead and put the game out of reach. The TS fans started the "fire up the bus" chants and singing "na-na-na-goodbye."

Some of the GC fans were getting so riled, they started yelling "sit down and shut the [censored] up." The state troopers were lined up near the entrance. I think they were expecting it to break loose.

Granted, this is nothing compared to some stories I've heard about games between Council and Twin Valley.

But I don't expect Twin Springs or GC to show up Friday to play nice.

Yeah and i guess nobody was hearing the things castlewoods fans was saying to our player tonight on the bench .....

When I saw that TS's bench was in front of Castlewood's section, I was worried about what might happen.

It seems that Castlewood's fans were more animated during the TS game than they were in their own game.

They were probably saying things about having a foreign exchange student who came over with an agent playing ball for you. I guess everyone else in the region needs to recruit foreigners who used to play a little pro ball in their own countries.

I'm sure it wasn't nice.

I gotta think that the GC - Twin Springs rivalry is more intense though.

If you can find a foreign exchange student who is a good basketball player, and wants to live in Dickenson County, I'd say go for it!

I thought last year was TS's first win over GC.

Getting an exchange student to play basketball is one thing but to get one that played pro ball in his country and then cover it up is horrible. I feel like our entire region has been cheapened by this. I hope GC beats the crap out of TS.

well last night at the girls game they seated gc and kelly on the same side, which was fine since we are both from the same lpd, but when gc was playing , kelly's fan's was cheering for twin valley. That is really sad, like someone said we are from the same lpd why treat each other like that ... I believe if we made it to the final four or even to the championship game kelly would hope for the other team to win.... I think you should support your local teams in your area and be rivary's during seasone but hey support each other during Regional D or State

Most other schools in the lpd dont like gate city, thats obvious but when you dont like a school, you arent going to cheer for them regardless of them being "local" or "in the same district". I remember going to a burton game against suffolk in the state quarterfinals. Everybody from Kelly came to the game to cheer for Suffolk. Thats just the way things are, should you really expect more? I dont think so. Same goes with Burton, ask Big game James, when they beat Kelly in the regionals, every Burton person in the building was a Haysi fan that night. Most people around here do not like Gate City, thats all it really comes down to.

You shouldnt have expectations that other teams fans are going to cheer for you.

Maybe if you guys would quit winning so much. Thats usually a pretty good thing to do in sports. Who are the most hated teams in sports? The yankees, miami hurricanes, USC, Duke, the Lakers, the Cowboys, etc......Everyone loves to hate a winner, youre either with them or against them.

Yes, I'm guilty of not liking GC. The reasons are many: They have dismantled the LPD from limb to limb since GC came in.

I sat on the GC side last week during the LPD finals. I have NEVER seen or heard such unruly conduct in my life. Yes, GC is the best. Adding insult to injury is another thing though.

I have been guilty of rooting against GC since day one. I was a player when they came in, and didn't want them in the LPD to begin with. I root for anyone...Appy, PV, Kelly, whoever besides GC. The original LPD that I grew up with was PV, Appy, Kelly, Coeburn, Burton, Clintwood, and Pound.

Heck, I rooted against Haysi (a county team) in the Region D Championship when they played PV

Nothing offensive to GC, but after this year...Good bye, good riddance, and good luck...

Our entire region has been "cheapened" by Twin Springs getting an exchange student who is a pro-level ball player?

I'm sorry but that's just overly dramatic. TS hasn't done anything that any other school hasn't done or could have done if they wanted to. Nearly every school gets transfers/exchanges at some point in time. The difference being that Twin Springs is better at working the system.

I've said it before: "take em' where you can get em." If you have an exchange or transfer who is interested in playing for you team, and you turn them down for those reasons, you really don't deserve a championship.

I think somepeople like yourself is just sore loser's and that is the worst kind of people when you play sports... our kids but in over 110% on what they do can't help it if your schools can't do the same...... ITS GREAT TO BE A GCH DEVIL.......

He is good, but I'm not even sure he is the best player on their team.

I totally agree with that. Overall I would give him 3rd because Keith is so valuable to TS. Keith is a much better defender, and gets the dirty work done for TS. He is a good shooter, and ball handler, but is he just ok everywhere else.

Yeah--that's where people get it mixed up...Club player is like having a combined team from like 16-20something guys on the same squad and playing. They don't get paid per se, but they're the form of entertainment over there as a Club squad, and all of your training is paid for along with all equipment and facilities. Not so different from playing in HS, but he's probably faced some [censored] good competition over there that prepared him to do the things he's doing over here. I'm not saying if it's fair or unfair, but I don't see how TS is able to get a transfer/exchange student every few years to come over, and have skill enough to start on the HS level and help them get to regionals and possibly state. Do they keep a pulse on the exchange wire and see who's who amongst the basketball players wanting to be an exchange student in the US?

The last exchange student I personally remember @Coeburn was from Spain or South America somewhere...think his name was Andre...nice guy, but primarily a soccer player. He played basketball but only as a hobby as something to do...he wasn't very good--didn't do anything else but run track I think. He wasn't some uber-athlete--he just came over as an exchange student to learn in the US.

Well, you can find out if a prospective students has interests in certain sports, but you don't know for sure how good they may be. I guess the biggest thing is that you keep getting them from Europe where you have a better chance of them being a good basketball player. Other countries do not have the focus on bball, and normally European students tend to concentrate on a certain sport, or field, therefore giving you a good shot that they will be decent. I am in know way saying TS finds out if they are good or not, or tries to, just some theory, or logic behind it.

I think the thing that many people are overlooking is that these exchange students and transfers want to come here, specifically to the Twin Springs area because families will welcome them into their homes.

It is not as if these kids are coming here against their will or getting multi-million dollar contracts to play high school basketball.

It is a great opportunity for these kids to experience a different culture and most are very appreciative.

It seems that a lot of people resent Twin Springs fans because they have such in interest in basketball that they are willing to take advantage of these opportunities. I personally wish more schools had the same devotion to basketball.

I don't think that they want to come specifically to TS. They don't have a clue who TS is in Europe. They want to come to America for an opportunity. They don't care so much where, and most would prefer to go to a big city if they had their choice I would guess.

Its just that there have been a few folks from TS who have opened their doors, and those select few have received kids who played a lot of bball in their respective country.

There are exceptions, and they are at probably 75% of the schools in the area who do have ES students. Some play sports, most do not. I do remember PV having a football player or two in the past. Appy with Papst, RC with Grabner, GC currently with the volleyball girl, and TS with their 5 over the past 11 years.

That's the disparity that I can't turnover in my head and make sense of. Most schools will get 2-3 of these exchange students in the course of a decade, but it seems like TS gets a LOT more, and also gets a lot more that seem helpful in sports, especially basketball.

I can agree to a point. I know RC hosted 3 while I was in school. All were females, and only one participated in sports, although she didn't see significant playing time.

I know of other families at GC who have hosted, but they have not played ball, and of coure I know there are many others out there in the same situation.

Yeah...that's what I mean man--if other schools get a participating exchange student in a sport, the Chris Papsts of the world are far & few between. But it's like TS is playing with loaded dice or something...when they take a chance on a kid, bring him/her into the country as an exchange student, they most of the time roll a 7 with how good of an athlete he/she is and they contribute. It can't just be blind luck. Most schools might get 1 exchange student to contribute noticeably in an entire decade...TS can get about 5-7 to contribute in a decade.

For instance--TS had a slow start to the season this year, and then about 1/3 of the way into it, the news comes that they have an exchange student. Within 2 games, the kid works his way into the starting lineup and to me looked like their 2nd best all-around player come Regions. I mean I used to play connect the dots a lot as a kid, but this is connecting dot 1 to dot 2...there's a connection there. I looked at everyone around me watching Pecev play, and I told them...you can tell...just look at how he handles himself on the court--where he goes to, the moves he uses--he's played in Europe and played against pretty good competition to come over here and make an almost seemless transition.

He has made anything but a seamless transition. He is just now getting used to the style of play. His first three or four games were rough. He still gets whistled for the occasional O-foul for pushing off.

dude you should have watched PV tennis back in the day. A little before my time because it all ended when I was a soph. but every year for about 7-8 years they had at least one exchange student on their team. Stefan Sickel was a legend, similar to Henning but didnt stay here for college. Before him they had Chris Rohr from switzerland and Ola Erickson from Sweden on their team at the same time. Like I said, every year, it was no coincidence.

That was what I was saying, I hope that wasn't misinterpretted. TS also had an ES student this year, and he was part of the football team. I am sure there were others at TS. I was just mentioning ES students at other schools who contributed in the sporting fields that I know of.

Burton has a top notch mexican kicker playing next year. His family owns mi finca so hes not reall an exchange student. He has a chance to get all region, maybe all state praise from what Ive been told.
