Not sure how you get to play ball out of state? Looks like that would violate some VHSL rule???
ask any kid in the lpd if he cares about playing at a minor league field before you decide for them
i think raidermom has something against gate city!
who cares its not like the field plays that big of a role in the outcome of the games. IMO
let them play there
I do agree
There is someone who shall remain nameless who pays for them to play there.
GC doesn't have a nice Baseball facility but they sure do play on one!
What does it hurt playing there...nothing?
actually they go around asking local businesses for donations as well as have fundraisers

fundraisers

Everyone fundraises now...I remember not doing anything but playing when I was at that age. Now you have to raise money to play sometimes!
SAD!
i agree i hated havin to do fundraisers but it comes with the territory now days.....i can remember working on the clean event crew at the race
GC has a Big Blue Booster's club that raises the majority of the money involved for all of the sports at GCHS. Having the opportunity to play at a facility as nice as Hunter Wright is a treat for most of the schools. Next year, we'll add another minor league field to the region with the addition to Va High.
Does GC play a home game against DB this year at Hunter Wright???
saying that person pays for all GC athletics is gettin kinda tired...
they're very nice people, but they don't pay for everything
IF someone wants to pay to have Gate City play baseball in Tennessee then SO BE IT. What does it really matter anyway? The way I see it all the other teams have to travel another 10 minutes and in return they get to play on a nicer field with nicer dugouts and better stands for the fans. Even the fans get better choices if they want to go get something to eat. Shoot, go early and the shopping in that area is alot better too. The only drawback that I see is you have to drive through Webber City and we all know how the cops there can be.
Its a load of garbage they play in TN. Period. All the other schools play with what they have, why and how they can do anything else is a mystery. Its not like VA High who have a minor league team in their own town.
been playin there for five years.....no coaches or players have complained yet.....get over it
People have complained for 5 years, it just falls on deaf ears.
You could hand out gold certificates at the gate and there'll still be people whine. If you can't drive an extra 10 minutes to sit in a nice facility to watch a ballgame, then you don't need to be going. Some of you people would've never made it in Region IV if you complain about driving to Kingsport. Try driving to Martinsville for a region game.

people like you that are irrelevant to the game

Dan River is a nice one too
Those make that Region tourney being at Va High seem pretty good to some haha..
10 minutes from Gate City to Church Hill?
Maybe at 3AM.
I dont care if its hampton, norfolk or coeburn, its still in VA. Say what you want, relevance to the game or whatever, its garbage, just another way of tisting and bending rules, facts are facts, they have a field, regardless its condition, Clintwood plays their games with a 230ft right field fence, maybe they should rent out Pikeville College.
well if they want to then go for it. the teams will play there no mater where the game is i dont see this as a big deal for any team around here i think most fans enjoy the game there and players like the dugouts so if you dont like it im sorry that you have to play on a nice field
its not church hill its right off the exit pretty much....it takes 12-15 min max trust me i live right there
if that

lol that just reminded me of that commercial where they shrink the dude so he can sneak into the girls tent and the owl pick him up..... but ya i actually live past hunter wright and its still only like 12 min to my house
Like I said, 10 or 12 minutes at 3AM.
i dont under stand y so many people are so upset about playing there
ya 3AM and all the rest of the 23 hours in the day
its a great facility, do not get me wrong, I know its cool and all, Im just saying, I dont see how its legal in another state, I know of other places that do it, but still, I just do not see how they can do it, ya know.
I made that drive every day for two years. At all times of the day and night. If you follow the speed limit (and if your car is sporting VA tags, it is a very good idea to do so), you won't make it from Hunter Wright to GCHS in 15 minutes. Between 7:30AM-9AM and 3PM-5:30PM, you'll be lucky to make it in 25.
i think that its allowed because it really is a good experience for teams to be able to play there....and also gate city's field is on a flood plain and anytime there is any rain the field is unplayable and would cause major controversy with schedules

Might as well go through with it and rename GCHS to Kingsport North. Perhaps DBHS and KNHS could arrange their football schedules so they could share the use of J. Fred Johnson Stadium as well.
KNHS might as well move all of their basketball games to the Buck Van Huss Dome as well.

I'm sure Kingsport North's boosters could fund a very nice facility that the Junior Indians could call their own.
haha you are right about the va tags but honestly i do not speed and i make it to my house in under 15 min most of the time.....and as far as the late night/early mornin drivin goes we wont even get into those times haha
really good experence is not a reason.
They play JV games at their place, and if it rains they are not gonna let a HS team mare up a minor league park. To me, I just do not see any real reason to do it, like I said, other schools play on fields regardless of the conditions. It is nice, but just doesnt seem right.
