2007-08 Basketball

Well, the 07 football season is over for most teams and will be over for the rest of the Region in a few weeks.

Basketball season is almost here. I think practice starts for most teams around Nov 12.

So, some thoughts...

I know there are a couple of coaching changes for this year, and a few roster changes due to transfers and injuries. Of course, the biggest changes are the new CMD district and the change to Div I and Div II teams.

If Gate City makes it through the football playoffs injury-free, they should be considered a favorite to contend for the Region D Championship in Div II and possibly a return to the state championship game.

In the LPD, the loss of Coleman is going to be a big setback for JI Burton who I think would have been considered a strong contender for the Div I title and a return to the Region D playoffs. I think the Raiders are still going to be a very good team, but that's a tough loss to overcome.

I expect Castlewood to be strong again in the Cumberland District with some new competition from Coeburn. St Paul should have another good team this year. It looks to be a tough year for Twin Springs unless there are some roster changes ahead.

I haven't heard much about the Black Diamond teams this year.

On the girls side, expectations are high at JJ Kelly for the Lady Indians to have good year and return to the Region D playoffs. Clintwood should have another good team in the Lady Waves. Looks to be a re-building year for the Gate City Lady Devils.

Coleman is a big loss, Although he has told me that he may be able to return mid-season, because he is making a very speedy recovery.....but this is only if that continues and with some prayers, a little luck and his strength, that might just happen....I sure hope so, so im going to keep praying

and we will have Devin Talley playing this year, he is a very good basketball player also

i talked to coleman's mom earlier in the week and she said he wasnt goin to play bball that she wasnt gonna let him because she was gonna make sure he was healed up .... was gonna let him start lifting when he got released but no basketball this yr

Even without Coleman, I think JIB is a strong contender in the LPD and Div I basketball picture.

I think someone said that Forrest Stuart would be back to play for Appy, but I'm not sure.

What? Hack and Saylers don't even play football. Haha, JK, Srsly though, knock on wood Cvcgrad.

I think that the LPD is going to be wide open from top to bottom. We should be decent with Sproles, Dotson and Co. The Lady Indians should be solid.

I think JJK should have a good team too. I don't know who Pound will have playing. Dustin was the anchor on that team the last couple of years.

I was gonna ask if Strouth was going to get to play? Any word on his injury? Did he get to play Friday?

JK-I'm proud but not insane haha, i can't wait to see the competetion this year, I go every year!!

When Brentwood had that Powerfoward that went to UNC last year...(dang, his name was something with a B its on the tip of my tounge but im not going to waste time with it), but damn, that guy was nasty!

He played sparingly. He should be fine by basketball season (and more importantly baseball season [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif[/img])

I could see JJK ending up 4th. Pound imo has the best post player in the LPD though, shame Fleming is gone if he was back this year they really could contend for the LPD.

Wright, he was good I watched them roll Twin Springs over there one night. I'm thinking about going to the TV tournament this year.

Bolling is a hoss. He makes the Cats dangerous.

I wondered if he was going to play basketball.

BRENDON WRIGHT! Thats it yeah, haha I remeber his name now, that guy was dominate. He threw down every time he touched the ball, took the ball down the court, anything he wanted to.

I can't wait to see some of the teams this year.

Arby's had some awesome teams last year.

The former forward for UNC?

Yeah that kilt me he was doing amazing stuff at UNC, but not nba draft amazing

I thought he was drafted in the top 10?

I really don't know im just blowing smoke, I really hate pro sports though, i just wished he would of stayed and did something at UNC

I thought he was a senior, I dont know...but yeah he went 8th overall by the bobcats, then traded to the GS Warriors...I do love the Phoenix Suns, just the way they play...Last season it took an average of 7 sec for them to score...Steve Nash is phenomenal

He was a freshman he only played one season at UNC, he is remembered most (by me at least) for missing two free throws late in the game against Maryland to seal the deal for the Terps. God I'm glad College Basketball season is here, after the UVA-Wise mess yesterday I'm ready to move on. Terps open it up Wed. night.

Lakers did take it to the suns the other night, they couldnt miss.....But I think the Suns will be Western Con champs this year

Oh I ddidnt know, I couldve swore hat someone said he was a senior...but UNC has a pretty good weapon....Tyler Hansborough

I personally think Brandon Costner is the best PF/C in the ACC.

Tyler Hansborough is like basketball Tim Tebow except not as Hyped, hes just so tough.

Yeah he is, my government teacher is a UNC fan and his background is of Tyler throwing down on somebody from Duke, but you should see his arms in that pic.....HUUUUUGE

I'm guessing that Tihlee, Hackney, Bays, Salyers will all be back. There was a younger player too last year who had a lot of playing time... Stephen ?

I wondered the same thing myself.

They took a pretty good beating from the German team last year. But Dockery competed in the slam dunk contest.

They have everyone back except 1, Arwood, and he didn't start. Smith was a freshman last season. And they will have a couple of new faces this season as well.
