Football season is knocking on the door.
My LPD Predictions:
1. Clintwood (9-1)
2. John I Burton (9-1)
3. JJ Kelly (7-3)
4. Powell Valley (4-6) (I really hope I got that one way wrong)
5. Appalachia (3-7)
6. Pound (1-9)

Is Brad Robbins helping coach the PV team this yr??? I figured he might help since he graduated from UVA-Wise in May
Clintwood
JIB/JJK/PV
Appy
Pound
1. Clintwood (10-0)
2. JI Burton (9-1)
3. JJ Kelly (8-2)
4. Powell Valley (2-8) The Vikings will experience what it feels like to be Pound and Appalachia this season. I believe those are the only two games that PV will win. How full do you think Bullitt Park will be in late October to watch a winless PV team play a winless Pound team????
5. Appalachia (3-7) Castlewood, St Paul and Rye Cove will be the only three wins for the Bulldogs in what will probably be the last year of AHS.
6. Pound (1-9) The Wildcats will defeat Hurley for the lone win of the season.
Astually, I don't think P.V. will be nearly as bad as most of you think. Yeah, they have not been in the top tier the past couple of years that most people think they should have been, but look at who has beaten them. I think Phil, Travis, and little Brad will find some way to win 5-6 games. I don't think I would ever put them in the same category as Pound.
I agree and also am not sure about JJK being 8-2. Lots of holes to fill (think we are 2 yrs away from being something really good). I hope the kids we have will grow up and step up quickly this year. Clintwood should have no problem going unbeaten in the LPD this season.
I see PV maybe going 4-6 as I predicted but I would not put them that low on Pound's level.
1. Clintwood 8-2 (5-0) Will run through LPD with 2 non district losses to either Lebanon, Happy Valley or Shelby Valley
2. J. J. Kelly 9-1 (4-1) Experienced backfield will help tribe run through most of its less than stellar schedule.
3. J. I. Burton 7-3 (3-2) Some Inexperienced playmakers will help the Raiders from falling too much. They wont be as intimating as Raider reams of past.
4. Powell Valley 3-7 (2-3) They will be worlds better than Appy or Pound but will be victim of a young team playing a tough schedule.
5. Appalachia 3-7 (1-4) Same as PV, young team playing a pretty tough schedule.
6. Pound 3-7 (0-5) Will not be better than last year but will get wins over jenkins, twin valley, and hurley.
Pound won't beat Hurley. The Rebels only lost 5-6 seniors and only two of them made much of an impact (Gary. B,Robbie R.). The Rebels will beat Pound by the same score as last year.
Clintwood will have their hands full with Shelby Valley and Lebanon. J.I. Burton will be a little down, but not much, still probably 7-8 wins. The Tribe will win about 7 maybe squeak out 8. P.V. with their schedule will be hard pressed to win 5 but who knows. Appy and Pound bring up the rear with Appy. winning about 4 and Pound 2 wins.
You guys are all wrong. Pound will go 10-0. Everyone forgets these are the p-nut superbowl champs. They went 445-3 over 3 years. The only team they lost to wast the Pittsburg Steelers. Word is they are letting Snake and Rocky coach, so that's a given that they will win. They will do it with three plays: Tight End Reverse, Half Back Pass and Dive.
Sorry. Just the facts.
I can see PV going 0-8 only god knows what would come out of those last two games against appy and pound. . . could be alot worse than PV fans can imagine. Lee AT LEAST has a sure thing in Tyler Graham. Harlan County beat ya'll by 35 last year?? (correct me if im wrong) and who else do you see yourself getting by?? Possibly Kelly because its Kelly but other than that??
Lee High: My gut says PV but Tyler Graham is returning for Lee and he is a consistant competitive player that carried Lee and will only be better at it this year.
Leb: is the better team
Richlands: No chance in hell
Harlan: ??? as stated above
Burton and Clintwood: even the PV fans have threw up the white flag on these two games
Open: a win for the local ABC store
J.J. Kelly: PV fans agree they will lose this one too, but i really hope not, that would be really embarrassing.
Gate City: not a chance down here in hell ;)
Pound: After the beating your going to get from GC who knows what your team will look like for this one.
Appy at what most people think will be the last game at their stadium as The Appalachia BULLDOGS!!??:  this will be a fun season to watch PV. . .
We wont be very good. However, we only lost one LPD game last year and everybody other than CW will be worse than they were last year. I wouldn't be shocked if we went 4-6/5-5 again.
1. Clintwood (10-0)
2. John I Burton (8-2)
3. JJ Kelly (8-2)
4. Powell Valley (4-6)
5. Appalachia (4-6)
6. Pound (2-8)
I think the above is fair given the schedules. Burton & Kelly tie overall but Burton wins the tiebreaker. Same with PV/Appy. Three LPD representatives in the playoffs with CW/JIB/JJK.
Now, how many years has it been since P.V. didn't make the playoffs?
1991?
What other 2 or 3 games does PV expect to win?
and 1991 is right
I heard PV got into a little scuffle at their latest 7 on 7 match. May have been against Harlan Co.
How anybody could predict us to lose to Lee, Pound, or Appalachia I don't know. Lee hasn't won since 02, I don't know the last time Pound beat us, and Appalachia hasn't won since 1996. So, if you give us those 3 wins that leaves 7 games with GC/HC/LEB/Richlands/CW as definite loses. Which leaves the JIB/JJK games, we beat both teams last year and I expect them like us to be worse than they were last year. Odds are we split, I'm going with 4-6.
[QUOTE=pvfan;1830426], I don't know the last time Pound beat us[ QUOTE]
I am thinking 88 but I may be wrong
PV was bad last year and its supposed to be alot worse this year. . . i wouldn't at all take a win over lee for granted, pv has a slim chance at beating leb, JIB will def beat PV, and sadly so will JJK.
3 and 7 or 2 and 8
just saying depending on how badly your team is falling apart when they are out of the play offs at 1-8 or 2-7, 2-8 or 1-9 could happen
Gate City
Aug. 27 Richlands
Sept. 3 @ Tazewell
Sept. 10 @ Sullivan South (TN)
Sept. 17 Lebanon
Sept. 24 Appalachia
Oct. 1 @ Bluefield (WV)
Oct. 8 John Battle
Oct. 15 @ Virginia High
Oct. 22 Powell Valley
Oct. 29 @ Lee High
After Gate City playing last years schedule the way they did I can see us being 9-1 again.
I wish I could say 10-0 but Richlands returns so much talent, but who knows we play worlds better at home and we won a war at Richlands last year. It's a tough schedule but we return 3 all state players who all play both ways. Numerous starters return we replace 4 players, 2 on D line and 2 on the O line, and they are both patched up with out missing a step.
Changes on offense are inevitable(SP) with the moving of Dusty Clark to RB and Nick Bowen to QB or the two spliting time with Dusty (the 2nd team all state saftey) playing diff skill positions on offense. The backfield is a classic Gate City stacked, with Joeseph Vaungh (2nd team all state RB) at FB, Seth Clark (2nd Team all state LB) at FB and Dusty at RB I don't see anyone stoping that running game. Then we you account for the line that was steller last year, returns 4 players with significant playing time last year and fills the center spot left by senior aaron stokes with Aaron Reed (coach reeds son) who is a great freshman and should compete right away.
Anyone care to critic GC this year?? It's a rough schedule and the season could back fire in a hurry exp. leb@wise.
IMHO GC should be the class of SWVA they did MUCH better last season than I thought they would with there schedule.......IMHO the only games I would worry about would be South and Bluefield.
The only thing that I think that may hurt them in the region is if they get to workud up over where they are playing there game at Last season they were a better team than Leb but it seemed to me at least that they let the turf at UVA-Wise get in there heads.
Last time I remember of Pound beating PV was in 1985, PV used to play Pound the week before us (Burton) back then when I was playing.
Agree on the first part.
The second part is doo doo. That was a bunch of whiney fan's excuse. I don't think the players cared. They were just kind of young inexperienced and couldn't close that game out last year. They played well, dominated at times in that game and just couldn't close it out.
IDK I was in the pressbox before the game and a few of the GC coaches made an effort to keep the Lebanon coached from haveing access siteing a problem that they had at Lebanon eairlyer in the season.....If the coachs are playing games like that then it would not suprise me if it were made into a bigger issue leading up to the game (whether it be for modavation or whatever)
kind of goes to show what is happening in this area imho.
Ah yes, progress.:D
