Robin Black

I've noticed a lot of people on this board are all about Robin Black.

What is all the hype about?

Or for that matter... if you don't get it, fess up.

I personally - don't get it. No surprise there.

i've tried to listen to them but to be honest.......well lets just say i don't think they are good. [i'm in a kind and generous mood right now, maybe later i won't be and i post somemore lol]

Robin Black kicks ass and is one of the bands that are keeping glam alive.
I think they are awesome in m opinion.
Then again Sin listens to Audio Slave...so maybe she knows nothing about killer music...LMFAO!!!

They give 100% to every live performance I've seen, whether there's a handful of people there, or the room is packed. They don't just go through the motions. They also appreciate the fan's support, and are willing to hang out after. They love doing what they're doing. They're genuinely nice guys, and there doesn't seem to be anyone coming close to them at the moment.

I think the Planet:Fame album is a cool, catchy thing too.

They've got the attitude, musical skill, a fuckin top notch background on the music scene (i.e. Sassy Scarlet, Ballroom Zombies), personality n' these guys are the sweetest most likeable guys you will ever meet [img]redface.gif[/img] )

They're also currently in the studio recording the follow up to Planet: Fame ... roll up roll up *grinz

They are amazing and down to earth, friendly and give 100% at each live show, you thought Seb was entertaining well imagine him on speed and you have RB [img]biggrin.gif[/img]

Also there music is amazing but God knows how they are going to top their first album with the next one there is not a track on there I don't like [img]eek.gif[/img]

In my opinion, go see RB & IRS live and you will have a change of heart...

Whether playing to 5 or 500 people, there's no let up, it's a 110% jet powered rollercoaster, they play an awesome high energy show that leaves you TOTALLY reeling, it's a serious rock n roll slap in face that will leave your face pleasantly sore for a considerable time...

If you get the chance just go see em', they have the breeding and along with the show and the pounding tunes, they also have untold amounts of time for fans before and after the show, great tunes and totally down too earth fella's, without the head up their own ass attitude...all the credit and power to em!

guys, this has nothing to do with them as people, by what i read, i am sure they are all very cool guys, this has to do with what i hear coming out of my speakers. I even put the cd on again last night to give it another change, and I still don't get it. to me it sounds like generic, run of the mill, heard before, blah. maybe the fact that there isn't much really happening in the glam arena, makes people settle for what is there instead of looking at things more subjectively. you would select a cold glass of water over a warm glass of water if you had both options but if you were stranded in the desert and haven't had a drink in days, the warm glass of water would be considered heaven.

before i get chastised, this is only my opinion and lately my opinion hasn't been doing to go but i'm sticking to it.

What is considered "killer" music to one is NOT "killer" to another. I'm entitled to my opinion just like you're entitled to yours.

Everyone has their own likes and dislikes. But it's been my impression that this particular band has a following because as Spicey said they are "the sweetest most likeable guys". Which is cool. I can't say that I have never loved a band just because the guys were great. And in the same respect - there are some bands I can't stand because the guys are assholes.

When I listen to new bands that sound like something I listened to 15 years ago I cringe. Music has always progressed into something bigger and better. So when I listen to these new bands that have this old sound... it reminds me of a bunch of kids in their garage. It's great to listen to those old tapes and cds, because it's nostalgic. But I expect something MORE from the new guys.

You may think of it as keeping glam alive. But I think of it as beating a dead horse. It's gotta evolve into something new.

I can't buy that. if i hate the music with the force of 2000 blazing suns, being subjected to it for an extended period, while also having to pay for it, will not make me leave with a smile on my face. Just as having one of you guys join me at the front for a Bile show will not necessarily make you leave loving Bile if you are not into them in the first place.

Very true. I like my 80s/90s Glam/AOR. Some people don't. If you did, you'd love the Robin Black experience. It wouldn't seem like flogging a dead horse if you enjoy it.

I actually know a guy who saw them 'live' before hearing Planet:Fame, he was overawed by the gig n' totally disappointed by the CD

It has NOTHING to do with not liking glam.

For example... in Cleveland there's a 80s cover band that I would go see once or twice a month. Great guys (mostly)... have known them forever. They were AWFUL. But I'd still go see them because they were playing music I loved "BACK THEN". Even if they were playing originals in that genre... I'd go see them. Just for the fun of it.

The thing is... I don't think any type of music DIES as long as it has a following. But I also don't think that ANYONE should play the same style of music FOREVER. Look at the greats in Rock n Roll - they are ALWAYS changing while keeping their unique sound.

And Spicey... I totally get what you're saying live v. cd. Some bands are great live and you get disappointed listening to the cd.

I enjoyed seeing Cherry Bang live. I think I went to probably 100 shows (may be an exaggeration) but I hardly EVER listen to the cds. Not that they're bad... it's just not the same as watching Billy jump up and down.

Same thing with Warrant. I love Warrant live. Never ever pop in the cd - unless it's live... because then I'm always disappointed.

It's like that with many bands.

You never know, maybe Robin Black will change into something you like over the next 2 or 3 albums. Its all about personal taste.

It's strange how it works, some bands are totally cringe worthy 'live' n' others by far knock their studio cuts on their ass ... I think RB & the IRS are a strange one, I reckon I could go to every single gig they did n' STILL not get bored, there's just 'something' about them, the music makes my heart smile (if there's such a thing), but hey, my favourite sayin is 'It would be a shit world if everyone liked the same muso' ... n' trust me, there's a HELLUVA lotta bands out there I cringe at LOL

I know I've raved on about them quite a bit. I've seen them 8 times this year, so far. For me its a value-for-money rock 'n roll party, but then I'm usually drunk, haha.

I've been sober of a couple of occasions, times when I needed to be fairly 'with it'. But what's a party without a drink or two. I'm not gonna stand in the corner.

Ya know, I still have never heard them! Or, maybe I have...I am trying to remember. If I have heard them it was of the "in one ear out the other" variety. But from what I have seen mentioned of thier sound, would I be safe in guessing I would hate them? [img]wink.gif[/img]

Quite possibly! It's quite catchy, poppy-glam, but live they are more raw and energetic.

As for other comments on this subject, it's obviously down to pure musical taste, I don't buy this 'becuz Spicey says they're nice guys' at all, you listen to a band because you like the sound of their music, many people like RB many don't and neither party will change their opinion in a hurry, that's the bottom line I suppose, so my last words will be...
