Music software

Hi guys,
I remember this coming up on this forum just over a year ago, but can't find it anywhere in a search...

What software is available on the internet that has the capability of slowing music down? I want to work some programming out for a pop gig I'm on, but can't get the original desk mixings or sounds from the record company. I want it to be as accurate as possible so I can sample what I need and sequence what I can't cover.

Ideally, it'd be one that retains pitch when slowed down, but this isn't totallyessential.

I don't know where to find any internet software, but this might come in handy, although it is pretty pricey-

Thanks so much for this, unfortunately, even if i could afford $1,040.00 I'd begrudge doing so so much, I'd not pay a penny for the sheer principle!!

Any cheaper ideas? I'm thinking of maybe a downloadable programme...

I remeber their was a plag in for winamp that could slow down music.

Amazing Slow Downer from Roni Music

First, get WinAmp Free Media Player

Then, (still on WinAmp's site) click on the "plug-ins" tab and choose the "DSP/effect" category. You'll find several that slow things down (without changing the pitch)...try some out and see which one(s) you like. Chronotron is the name of one I can remember off the top of my head.

Sometimes, I'll use a wave-file editor to clip out exactly one or two bars of a particular groove. I'll continually copy-and-paste that clip so I have one long WAV/MP3 file of just that groove and slow it down in WinAmp. Then, I can either "absorb" it by listening, or just play along with it. This is helpful when you want to learn a groove that requires good coordinated independence (like a left-foot clave, e.g.)

I am sorry, i never buy software... Cubase, Nuendo, Reason, Logic, Soundforge... i have them all but never pay a penny. If i came across one that i believed was WORTH paying that much, then i would. One would basically have to incorporate all the features that they don't have in common/share into one, THEN i would consider it... my morals convict me to steal them, i can't morally justify buying them [img]wink.gif[/img]

As someone who makes a living building and selling software, you might imagine that I find that deeply offensive.

If you don't think it's good enough to buy, don't steal it and then try some pathetic justification for your theft.
