In-laws and AG *pics added!*

My in-laws are visiting for DD's First Communion tomorrow (watch for my new avatar coming soon to a monitor near you!). MIL is one who would never buy the girls anything AG. After the initial hugs were over, they walked into the den and saw our doll desks-Samantha's, Kirsten's and Molly's. They both exclaimed at what cute desks until I told them they were for the dolls. Then they just said "oh" and walked off. [img]frown.gif[/img]

Our playroom is right next to the den and I had already removed over half of our clothing collection and filled in the cube space with other toys. Well MIL "inspected" the playroom and literally gasped when she saw our doll stuff.

It's not just that they don't approve of our dolls, it's that they are downright condescending about it and that hurts. [img]frown.gif[/img] So for the next birthdays we are asking for Playmobil. Those are on her "approved" list. [img]graemlins/cry_smile.gif[/img]

That is awful. You shouldn't feel bad because they are condescending. Your collection is for your enjoyment not theirs!

I would think of ways to exact dolly revenge on them!

Boy do I EVER know how you feel.I actually have to hide all of my AG stuff when the inlaws come.It makes me sooo sad.

Why do you suppose they feel that way? My in-laws don't believe in extravagance, and they see AG as very expensive, but it is not like Play Mobile is cheap. So what is your in law's problem?

Wow. That would really tick me off. How rude. And Playmobile is really expensive.

My inlaws act like my dolls are perfectly normal. My mom makes snide little comments and weird faces. She never used to be that way. And I fully expected my inlaws to be the ones to scoff at the whole thing. Then again...their daughter has over 100 dolls. She just doesn't change their clothes and fix their hair.

I find myself wishing I could snap my fingers and make my dolls disappear when my mom drops by. [img]redface.gif[/img]

Have fun with your DD's First Communion. It is such a special, innocent time. I love the pretty dresses and veils. I got a stunning First Communion dress and veil off an e-Bay boutique for my daughter's 1st Communion 2 years ago. It might have been my best ever e-Bay purchase.

I think that is so sad. I would just ignore them and their rudeness toward your hobby. Just brush it off Tracy. My DH does the same thing to me and i ignore him. But go figure he loves Nellie because she is Irish like him and he dont like my AG dolls, he so weird [img]graemlins/wonder.gif[/img] . Keep on collecting if it makes you happy and dont care what they think about and stand up for your girls lol.

Thanks, everyone. I really am not sure why she disapproves of AG. Maybe part of it is the "$100 for a doll?" syndrome. She probably does not understand that there is also educational value. Up until now, she has given the children toys like Brio trains, Brio erector sets, Leap Frog (oh my goodness we are Leap Frog'd OUT), but she has also given them Barbies, FP dollhouse sets, etc.

Part of the problem with AG as far as MIL is concerned is that she can't go see it and touch it and buy it and ship it herself. As much as she hates going to Toys R Us, she wants to go and see the item, wrap it and ship it. But that isn't really all there is to it.

We're all excited about First Communion tomorrow-DD and DS both get to be altar servers for the Mass! The cake is all ready except for the sugared grapes, grape leaves and wheat that I still need to put on it. Actually it's the second cake. We left the first one unguarded and 3yo DD started snacking on it. [img]graemlins/grrr.gif[/img] Luckily I had an extra cake mix.

Judi, the dress DD will wear is the one her older sister wore 3 years ago. It is a gorgeous, elegant flower girl gown that was the store display and on sale for half-price. Then I couldn't find a veil like I wanted so I went to the fabric store and bought the wreath and veil and made it myself. She will carry in her purse a handkerchief that belonged to her great-grandmother and her grandmother's (MIL's) missal. I just love that part, we'll even have her picture made in the same pose as her grandmother's communion portrait with the handkerchief and Missal and her own rosary. [img]graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

I'm not Catholic, so I am at sea about the grapes and wheat on the cake. I would love to hear about that.

I'm sorry about your in-laws' attitudes. I just don't get it--if a desk is cute by itself, how does it change when they find out it is for an AG? I would think they would care more about how much your DD's love to play with the AG stuff than how much it costs. Perhaps you should take your MIL to AGPC someday and make her see and touch things in person and show her all the educational books. [img]wink.gif[/img]
