Piccolo Snares!

What are good piccolo snares that sound good and dont hurt the bank? 'm looking for that Garibaldi/vinnie sound. Should I try wood or steel or brass?

I love the brass ones. I use the Garibaldi snare and really like it. Randy was so-so on his though so check one out first.

I got mine on eBay to help offset the price. Generally I do like the Pearl stuff as well but there's a crispness to the Yamaha drums that I really like.

Maybe look for an older yamaha brass pic on eBay?

How about some Ebay tips when purchasing a drum? I've done some Ebay selling and buying, but with several drums I was interested in I had doubts about the actual craftmanship based on photos.

I've played the Yamaha pic snare from the early Garabaldi years--see early video from 90's (wood). It did not cut through Live. It sounded best recorded.

I don't care for the recorded sound on Oakland Zone. The mix is too low for me and the snare seems super tight--no personality. Maybe that's THE sound for funk based music, but I need more body--not Alex Van Halen body, but some more than that recording.

I bought a Ludwig maple piccolo at my local drum shop. It was a 1970s' series. It has that ?Love crack and is a really beautiful instrument. I use it as a secondary snare. I just love it! I only paid $50.00 for it. PT.

I want the sound of tower of power when they are live. I have a live CD with that really tight sound.

remember the snare sound weckl had on 'back to basics'? Do you happen to like that sound? If so, it's the yamaha brass piccolo. I've got that same model, had it for years and it really cuts through. Loud drum. Really crisp and sensitive too.

ive got that 14x3.5 pearl maple and its great...my teacher has the garibaldi snare and its also good

You might wanna check out the pearl firecracker snares. They're really cheap and sound quite decent.
