I bought a Molly Halloween outfit on ebay, and the seller said it was from 1990. It came today, but the tag in the sweater looks suspicious to me, and the mask doesn't look like I expected it to. Does anyone else have an early version of this outfit? If so, could you take a picture of the sweater, its tag, and the mask, and post it somewhere?
The tag on my sweater is a single, one-layer tag, cut on an angle, with fraying ends. It says "Pleasant Company" and "1989", but the other tags that I have on other PC clothes from that era
are folded double, and have two tags together. And I thought that the mask from that era was molded cardboard/plastic, and this one is flat paper/cardboard.
I will try to post pictures to show what I mean, later tonight.

Don't they cut tags at the madison sale?
What is the skirt made out of? I may be wrong, but I was thinking the new one is plastic and the old one was paper? I know something like that is different on the re-release.
Sorry so wishy-washy...

The original mask was cardboard/plastic. If the mask you have is paper it is not the"original" mask. The tag should be double but the wording is correct for the outfit that we have. Hope this helps.

We have this outfit and my sweater has the double folded over tags. One says Made in China for Pleasant Company and the other says Hand wash seperately in cold water. No year on mine. The skirt with the original set is crepe paper and the new set is plastic. The flowered lei, wrist and hair flowers with the original set are all yellow and also made of paper. The new set looks more like silk flowers and they're not a solid color. As for masks, I can't find ours (have been meaning to ask for it as a replacement part), but I'm pretty sure it was black plastic, a little molded. The original set followed the book more accurately.
Did you buy the set from that Singapore seller? I've looked at her stuff but been a little wary of ordering from her. The tags on some of the stuff from the Madison sale are snipped.
Hope this helps.

The seller is apparently in Washington state.
The skirt and lei and hair and wrist flowers are all made of paper.
The tag isn't clipped, as is done for the MCM sale. It's just straight with one layer, kind of like the newer, post-Mattel tags are. But the ends are frayed, as if it was just cut from a long ribbon of tags, and then left unhemmed.
The skirt and lei and flowers seem like the early ones. The sweater and mask I have questions about.
I will take a picture and post it in a few minutes.

I've posted the pictures in my "Show and Tell" album. The link for it is in my signature. I haven't been able to enter the album, even after I added the new pictures, so just let me know whether you can make it work or not.

joy- I have an older set. and that mask you show in the pictures is not right. It should look the same as the most recent one. I would get your money back asap.

I have to agree with Kit Girl. The mask is not the original. We ordered this outfit when it was first released and the mask should be a shiny plastic looking mask.
The tag may have been clipped by the original owner. I know that I did this to a few of our outfits. Some of the older tags where very thick for tags. Te double tag sometimes made it look like a "lump" when you put the doll in the outfit. I trimmed the tags to make the clothes lay flatter. Hope this makes sense.

I understand what you're saying about the owner clipping the tag, but if you look at the end that's in the seam, the workmanship just looks so shoddy and sloppy, so unlike the Pleasant Company of the 1980's. But thanks for the idea. If anyone else has more ideas, I'd be glad to hear them.

The ask reminds me of the one in the Route 66 book. I'm not home so I can't check now but I'll try to remember to look tonight. (Can't remember why there is one in the book but it seems like there is.)
