DESCRIPTION: 4 DVDs from Beta stereo hi-fi tapes I made when Vinnie was on Joan Rivers Show band. Each night Vinnie stretched himself to play, w/o a net, and pull of brilliantly phrased 2 bar solo fills, of which 90+% were captured as close ups by cameraman. Each night showed a new spontaneously created genius fill that only Vinnie can conjure.
QUALITY: I used highest speed for optimal video quality. One hr each DVD. Four hours total. Last disc has filler: Vinnie at Dallas 1987 Zildjian Day: GRP live in Japan with Vinnie playing with Grusin, Ritenour, Chick Corea and trading with Weckl.
SOUND: To my ears, this is the way drums should sound. Big and fat. Don't know what input VC had over sound, but his drum sound is awesome-snare is big, great rim shot sound, toms are the way toms should sound and Vinnie plays with such AUTHORITY, it's scary.
GUEST ARTISTS: He is shown playing with Herbie Hancock (2 tunes-1 w/ sticks, 1 w/ brushes), gets some nice licks in: Tom Jones, Austin, Teramani, Ashford/Simpson, Anita Baker, Geo Duke, etc.
FOR DRUMMERS ONLY !!! Because, it's all drums, drums, drums. It's Vinnie fills, intros and outros and music as they go to break-even this is a lesson in itself. VC is so imaginative playing all those commercial tunes-makes you want to transcribe his ideas the next time you play a dance gig and try to play his ideas.
