I don't display my dolls because I have so much other stuff around I really don't have a good place to display them. Lissie and Samantha sit on my bed. When the bed is unmade as it usually is, they sit on a big cushy chair in my bedroom. Coconut moves around with me because she is small. i dress her up and take her into my harp studio because my little students get a kick out of her sitting there and wonder what outfit i will put her in next.
I do play with Lissie and Samantha still. I don't make up stories for them. When I say play I mean I fix their hair and put them in different clothes like for the holidays.
At the moment my dolls are being ignored in exchange for my star trek addiction and my school work. I have three weeks of school left and I am done, done, done. I have a ton of papers to write and the end can't get here fast enough.

My Dolls are stacked neatly in their boxes.I want them to stay perfect for when my little girl is old enough to play with them.
I am always watching Ebay for a less than perfect doll, with no box, for myself, that I can keep out to play with, without worry. So far, all of the dolls I find on Ebay go almost as high as a new one! Ahhh, maybe someday.
I mostly change their clothes, fix their hair and arrange them with the appropriate furniture and/or accessories to go with the little story that I am thinking of at the time. I also enjoy telling a story with pictures of the dolls but it takes a lot of work. Maybe I'm too much of a perfectionist.
My two dolls are on display in my pink room, which is serves as my sewing room, doll room, and for right now a good place to hide most of my messes. It is the only room in the house that still has boxes in it (we moved in just over a year ago). I am still trying to decide how to display and organize everything.
Most of the time my dolls are just on display, but I do take them places. Usually, I take one of them with me when I go visit my family so I can show my mom some of their new outfits. Last month I took Kailey with me on my business trip to Hawaii.
I enjoy making them new clothes and getting them dressed.
Mine are mostly "out of the closet," on the guest room dresser and in vignettes with the scenes and settings---heaven forbid we have a guest!!! LOL (would take a major room revamp to get ready for company). For Easter, Molly's birthday, Christmas or some occasion, I make a small vignette on a chest in the living room for a short display. But mostly the girls have the guest room to themselves and enjoy spreading out and playing. All their clothes and accessories are in rubbermaid tubs stacked to the ceiling and hanging on an AG caddy---would love a big armoire to hold everything! You can see the kitchen and bedroom scenes I have set up in my "after the code" album for the Dollsinaction contest last week. BTW I have a baby gate at the doorway so our new little Cairn terrier Bob can't snoop around in there! I really enjoy hearing what others do with their dolls!

PS I did take Molly on a long trip to Florida in January, but mostly they stay home.

Right now I have my dolls on display in my living room. We actually call the living room the "girl" room. It's very feminine with a Victorian flair. Our boys have their own room, also known as the family room. I like to put the dolls around the room on display. I don't have any AG furniture anymore, but I will someday when I get my doll room. Right now I have Addy standing next to the trunk DH made me for Christmas, and the other girls are in various locations in the room.
I love to fix their hair, and change their clothes. In fact, I was changing some clothes last night, and still have some hats and clothes to put away this morning. I lost track of the time last night, and got too tired! Besides...I like to see the little hats and shoes....
When I get my doll room, I will likely let myself leave things out once in a while.
I have too many dolls. That being said, each doll belongs to at least one "group" and all the groups but one have their own place and storyline. The Time Travellers (TTs) can move freely between all the groups, come from a variety of different times (past, present, future) and places and interact with some groups more than others. They also have their own exclusive activities. Dolls who belong to a group whose story is not active in my mind tend to be boxed, although so far the TTs have resisted this! None of the storylines have anything to do with the American Girl historical characters directly, although AG activities and crafts are one of the things that the groups can choose to participate in.
My first group has a story placed in relatively modern Norwich and Ipswich, in England. They have been "bedded" for a couple of years but are now active and Gina, whose story is based in the house where I live, has had to take a back seat. Right now it's Choko's turn. She's a half Japanese, half American girl (1993 Gotz) and her story links to my first AG dolls.
I do take my dolls outdoors for photo shoots as well as setting up backgrounds in the house. There are also a few girls who just hang around in case I'm driving somewhere. They behave nicely in the car, don't make a fuss when they can't go into stores with me and are generally undemanding company. Gina would be hurt if she couldn't go into a store or restaurant with me, for example, but Bridget just likes the ride.
For the most part, the story of whatever group I'm playing with tends to unfold in my head during the week and then if it feels like it would be interesting to look at, I try to make the accessories I need so I can photograph it on a weekend. Often the preparation for a photo story lasts for months! So although I may not be actively carrying my dolls around with me, their presence fills my days and sometimes I even dream about what's going on with them. I'm hoping my baby cherry tree will bloom this year so Choko can have a cherry blossom festival soon. But if it doesn't, we'll have a dogwood festival instead.
Gee, Sweet Dessert, maybe I should figure out a way to make Molly sleep with one eye open and one eye closed!! Gosh, then I guess she would end up in the AG hospital for repairs! LOL
Oh, well, maybe a better solution would be to let them take turns or fold out the bed and let them sleep side by side! Molly's turn HAS lasted quite awhile--although she did take a break to celebrate her birthday last week. I guess Kit (who is actually Gotz Lil Sister Lily--hoping to get REAL Kit for my birthday) wasn't too upset, because she did attend the birthday party and seemed to have a good time!!!
