Funny you should post some Phillips because I listened to SIN AFTER SIN last night, not because of any fondness for Priest but because of how casually Simon plays circles around their arrangements. It's almost as if he's holding back too, like playing with just his feet and left hand while he sips a cup of tea in his right.

Of all the video Simon I'm blessed with: instructional tapes, Zildjian Day in London, a drum battle with Louis Bellson in a German castle plus some bass/drums with Wolfgand Schmid; my favorite is a DVD of Los Lobotomys at the foot of the Black Forest. It looks like an outside gig and the cameramen are swarming all over the USS Phillips. His playing and dynamics on that is amazing. He nails every figure, accents every nuance, solos compositionally in odd time, accompanies with taste and double-clutches the changes with superhuman power.

If I'm not mistaken Simon and Vinnie were born in 1957. A vintage year for drummers. [img]graemlins/cake.gif[/img]

It's funny you mention Sin after Sin, he was asked a question about that disc, and about Les Binks and he talked a bit about band sBinks was in back then. It was pretty cool.

I guess, only in Michigan.
