As we all know, city council member Sam Malone's 14 year old son was taken to the hospital for injuries sustained at the hands of Mr. Malone. The son had welts on his chest and back.
I had a discussion with gae about this last night, and we took opposing positions. She supports child abuse, I'm against it.
Thoughts and comments appreciated.

I kinda doubt that gae supports child abuse.
I read and heard a little bit about this, the 911 call was strange. The kid was talking about being afraid to go home (with good reason apparently) Not really any good excuse to just beat up your kids.
As for Sam Malone, he should have just stayed at Cheers, politics is obviously too stresful for him.

Actually, I've been kind of preoccupied and did not know much about this. I heard one of the WLW guys talking about "Sam Malone" and was wondering why they were discussing the bartender on Cheers.
Therefore, I have very little background knowledge of this. For what alleged infraction was the child being punished?
Point to ponder: Infliction of physical pain has been a punishment for all recorded history. Only recently in more enlightened countries is this considered barbaric or cruel. Does evidence exist that prison time (= being "grounded" or having privileges removed for the modern child) is a more effective deterrent to future misbehavior than infliction of physical pain (being spanked)? Is there less recidivism for an act that is now punished with time in prison vs a public flogging?
I'd be interested if anyone on the board,(maybe one of our police wannabes) have information on this.

I should clarify what gae said. Her comments on child abuse apply only to black children, not white, thus extraordinary whippings are acceptable in the case of Sam Malone.

I do not support child abuse, black, white or green. I simply told you that there is a bit more to the story -- like the kid deciding to kill his father.

Malone's son then talked to the 911 operator, who then called police.
Still have not verified anything that said the son wanted to kill Malone. But of course, if the son were constantly beaten severely, he may have been given ample motivation.
I know gae thinks it's ok for a boxer like Malone to pummel a 14 year old innocent black boy, but I think this type of abuse should not be condoned.
