yeah i got that too! I can't wait to hear it, maybe i will pick up all the other DWB records i dont have yet too
Yep. I'm sure this will sound like all his other albums. I'll dig the drumming for sure though.
The samples seem to indicate that no new ground has been broken on the compositional side of things, that's for sure. I tend to feel that Dave's solo stuff suffers from bland and predictable, but the songs seem to work well in a live setting. I'll probably get the CD anyway, just to support the guy.
To be honest, there isn't really a lot of new music out there that excites me these days.... Maybe Pat Metheny's latest, or Scofield, but that's about it.
I miss the good old days of Holdsworth's first few records, the first records of Vital Information, and the first four or five Jeff Beck records. These days things are sounding too 'pristine' and there's no sense of 'risk' or 'mystery'.

Pat's not doing anything new either though. Scofield is going back to honest real groove music. And that never get's old, thank God.
If it weren't for Antonio Sanchez adding his little latin flavor to the mix, Metheny would be same ole thang. I'd rather listen to Pat with Danny Gottlieb. The best PMG in my opinion.

I love his latest PMG record too, but it's true that he's rehashing a lot of his sound on that. As for Beck, I really hope he records with Vinnie, or at least puts out a live DVD of the tour.
PMG LIVE is the deal. I always make it a point to see them if i get the opportunity. I haven't bought a PMG disc in...I can't remember. Still Life Talking? Travels is the most played PMG disc i own, still to this day. It never gets old...PURE MAGIC. The other DVD w Wertico besides Imaginary Day is nice too [don't own it, but have seen excerpts in music stores & at friend's]. Too bad a Travels VHS wasn't put too present DVD. I was hung up on all the precision after DW & subsequent came out, AWA pop & crossover country...but it's getting old to me now. Not enough grease & ebb & flow. The drum machine was deemed a great invention at the time AWA for the longest...but now, it's a beast w a now seemingly overemphasized life all it's own[?]. Glad i'm not the only one. Is this the dawn of the advent of a retro, post drum machine, "more human" feel movement?! Hopefully so. [I'm not talking about "sloppy" muso time-playing when i say that either. To me, VC has long played on top. Now, he CAN loosen it up in the studio for a sessions work. But I don't think either has the Gadd feel, even tho DW sounds as if SG is a huge influence in both approach & groove.
But I ain't gona say anything abouts Mr. W. He's just too good to bag on. Even if he is so precise, because that's his thing. Really, someone just needs to ask him [if they have the bales ;-)]: "Just step away from the click, sir. Step away...if only for a brief moment"... And then really scare us all...oh well; 'guess he's scaaawy enough as it is. [img]wink.gif[/img]

I love Weckl's playing, but I love it more when he's playing on OTHER musicians' recordings. The songwriting with the DWB hasn't been stellar (IMO).
Yeah, but Weck usually pulls a sideways lick out of the hat that makes me go olkaerfbhoijybjpmoiyj.
I hope this doesn't cause an uprising in here, but it's just my humble opinion.
I used to be a huge Dave fan back in the day of Light Years and the band French Toast.
I listened to some of the samples of Muliplicity, and I can't say I relate to Daves musical choices compositionally or groove wise. It sounds exactly like Dave 20 years ago. Precise to the point of no feel, no grease, no emotion. The music is very poorly written in my opinion, and is based around the wierd off beat patterns and rhythmic tutti's that Dave wants to play, to show off his drum chops. To me this isn't music, it's a drum clinic all over again. Instead of listening to the Dave Weckl band I can go put on "The Next Step DVD" because to me, it sounds the same
I'm huge fan of what Dave has accomplished and his technique and touch are beautiful. But his ability to make me feel something when listening to him is nonexistant. And in my opinion so is the idea of any pocket. Being that precise eliminates any pocket, as pocket is playing behind and greasy.
I guess that's one of many differences between Vinnie and Dave.
For some reason they always get grouped together as a drum style, but they are very different. Dave isn't on the session scene, and he never playes polyrhythms of any kind. And most importantly Vinnie has an amazing feel.
I've been wanting to address my feelings on this for sometime, and this thread gave me a window.
Sorry Dave, I'm just not feeling you.
