Some of vinnies finest moments ( mp3)

Well I've been listening to GRP super live 1987 non stop for the last month or more. I think I know it backwards now. Really, this album is just so awesome and showcases some of vinnies finest playing. Oddly enough it also showcases some of vinnies loosest and untightest moments too, the timing of some licks or fills in a lot of places is late or early, but because of his feel and the whole vibe of the band, it really doesn't matter and again, shows that vinnie is,( or was once ), human.

I've compiled my favourite moments from the album, ending with the complete song with diane schuur of deedle blues. It's a great song but the start of deedle blues is, just, lol, fantastic. I love that hi-hat footwork just before the vocal comes in and I'm trying to figure out exactly where he's placing those notes.

There's also a solo, and also a few seconds of licks and fills from the different tunes that I really like.

00:41 Can anyone please tell me, how the heck does he orchestrate that single stroke roll at the very end of the song? I think it's possibly the most amazing fill I've heard vinnie do.


2:42 to 2:43 that one second lick he comes up with when it's just the guitar playing, is awesome. I mean not that it's technically hard but again, it's where he places the notes that is mind bogglingly clever. And it's spontaneous thinking!

2:55 end of same tune, another great fill.

tanks for compiling this rudy...i've been thinking about buying this cd but its an import and so expensive but maybe this will finally convince me!

This album was my bibble before that I hear about "Secrets"...

Well, this incredible fill is 3 with the hands and 1 with the kick, but its really fast so easy to say, very hard (for me) to do it at this tempo with single, that why I use 2 with my right hand, one with the left hand and one kick.

I hope that you will can understand what I mean...

Hey rodge, thanks. Wow, I had no idea he was playing that. It sounds like just hands to me. But I remember him doing a similar fill with joni mitchell on 'you're so square'. To be honest, I thought he was playing what you described on the 2:55 fill. So anyway, when he does that fill at 00:41 is he playing

3 with the hands snare and 1 with the kick
3 with the hands 1st tom and 1 with the kick,
3 with the hands 2nd tom and 1 with the kick,
or something like that?

--- = one triplet(one beat)

x=hh, X=open hh, s=snare, S=accented snare

starting at 3:26: hi-hat plays:

Anyway Rudy, no real mystery here, just triplets broken up between hands and feet: right-left-kick, right-left-hihat... he 'diddles' or drags the left hand...the thing at the very end is just triplets between hihat and left hand.

some...tasteful independence...most of us here have worked on this stuff...

FYI- anybody listening with Windows Media Player can slow down audio by choosing a slow play speed from the 'Play' menu.

No, it's not just for slowing down your favorite p*rn vids...haha
