Intro and question about Samantha

Hi eveyone! I'm Jen and have been lurking the board for a few months. While I don't consider myself a doll collector (AG or otherwise), I have recently found myself completely addicted to searching e-bay for AG items. I've purchased a few things (all for my DD and her AGOT doll) but mostly just dream. So, while I don't collect (yet), I've certainly become obsessed! [img]smile.gif[/img]

One purchase I did make a few weeks ago as a Christmas gift for DD was a Samantha doll. However, after receiving her and doing a little research, I'm now convinced she's not Samantha but rather a Today doll. Her face is so similar to my daughter's doll and not nearly as full as the Samantha I see in the catalog. Also, while beautiful, this doll's hair is not a dark brown but rather a reddish brown. Lighter, in fact, than DD's doll. The back of her neck does say "Pleasant Company" and underneath is the letter-number combination "14 D3". Also, I guess this doll has made a visit to the doll hospital at some point because her neck strings have been replaced with a plastic band.

Thanks in advance for any help. I've learned so much about AG collecting just by lurking the boards but this is somthing I needed true expert advice on!

That girl is definitely not Sam, Sam always has brown eyes, never blue like that doll. Welcome to the board!!!! You'll be collecting in no time [img]smile.gif[/img]

Welcome to the board!And I think you have AGOT#5 there.She has red hair,brown eyes, and fair skin.

I do think you got an AGOT and not a Samantha, is her hair straight?? if so then you got the AGOT. Samantha has more dark brown hair and curls. Hope that helps.

If it makes you feel better, the same thing just happened to me. I got AGOT#1 in stead of Addy, as was advertised. She is really growing on me now because all AGs are cute in my opinion. You do have a beautiful doll. I would consider hanging on to her and seeing how you feel about her after she is dressed up and her hair is styled. Then you could get Samantha too later on.
