It may not be my style nor my taste but hey, this is awesome! He's an animal. Playing like this in the studio requires more than speed or confidence... I admire players like that who spent a lot of time learning how to play the drums...
its funny the way the engineers who obviously know nothing about drumming wet themselves at every opportunity [img]biggrin.gif[/img] Great technique all the same.
He's got incredible technique and time, and is an amusing guy to hang with. And somehow he keeps getting faster....

I prefer to look at it like this D_F: First of all that music isn't my cup of tea and I wouldn't want to be involved with it and secondly this is everything I hate about drumming: No dynamics, taste, peaks troughs, touch or feel. Gimme a Peter Erskine ballad any day. Why have I never hear Mike play tasteful and with controlled dynamics? If you think it's the green eyed monster, you're wrong. I hold my hand up to being absoloutely nowhere near his technique. But I'll say this, if that's the sort of playing that having his technique produces, then I'll stick to what I know.

I was asked to join Annihilator (Canada's biggest metal band) when I was 19 (I am now 25). I was playing metal at the time and getting some praise for it... although I had no interest at all in building my speed or sounding like a drum machine. To make a long story short, I was honored to be "the chosen one" but declined the offer... a few years later Mangini is back with them. Could have been me in this video (playing at half the speed)!!! Jeff Waters is killer thrash guitar player and once in a while writes a completly unbelievable rockin' thrash tune.
Mangini work is technically flawless on those tracks but uninspired, i think, compared to what a hundred or more drummers are doing in metal. (Or did at the height of "thrash-metal")
Weapon-X is one my favorite "pissed-off" tune (Great for training as those songs are quite steady)

Hi Guys,
At the beginning is joking around the kit...
But when he goes for recording the track, I find that he does it incredibly well for this kind of style.
Some drummer has to do it anyway...
I give him my respect.
He played for great for that style, which for the non-close minded, non-timid/insecure, is a great genre for drums.
