NEW 90C ON EBAY WITHOUT A THERMOWELL. WHAT IS THIS ?
How did they cook their oatmeal ?
I actually DID buy a 41CC on Ebay. I felt that I wouldn't miss the Thermowell, as long as it came with the griddle and broiler!
Of course, I'll probably end up with a wicked case of T-well envy. Would it be too much to have two? I think I know what my husbands answer to that would be...
I look at this stove on Ebay and I noticed something else... It has a white porcelain top?
Hey, FatFutures. I had understood that the high-BTU burner could be swapped out with the T-Well, although I'm not sure what all is involved. If you're insterested, I have an extra T-Well you can have - you just have to pay shipping on it from zip 92563.
It's the highback equivalent of a Model CC Style 41. (or 41CC)
Check out Todd's site, in the section called "pictures and specs of different models." If you look at the full page ad, you'll see "the white parade." It shows a 60C, a 41CC, and the 90C. They must have made a highback version, as well, though it wasn't on this ad for their product line. The other possibility was that someone switched out the original backsplash on a 41CC.
On these models, the thermowell is replaced by an extra large, 12000 BTU burner, filling the same footprint as the thermowell. HOT, HOT, HOT.
When I first started looking at Chambers stoves, I had the chance to buy a 41CC. I also saw one sold on ebay around the same time. I agonized about which to buy, because I can so much food and could really use the super hot burner. I finally decided that a Chambers without a thermowell wasn't as much fun, or as functional. Still, when I'm canning, I bet I'll be wishing I had that 12000 BTU monster. Burner envy...

Hi FF;
Can you truly claim that everything tastes better in the dutchoven, when you don't have a twell to compare with?
All I can say is look at the enthusiasm for oatmeal, for crying outloud, made in a twell.

Hola Annnt!
You have an excellent point! LOL I've never seen so many people SO excited about oatmeal.
I suppose I should have said "in my experience things taste better".
I suppose I'll make "DO" with my four burner Chambers .
Hey guys, Mr. Chambers was a smart man!!
He did limited versions with different/standard features. This stove is an example of one. There's also a model that features the daisy burner with 6 daisies. It might be this same model where the t-well should be
I would not give up my t-well!! The oatmeal is so easy and taste so good!!
Tom can do anything in my book!! Very inventive and smart man!! Maybe he's related way down the line to Mr. Chambers.
I'm so glad that there's another avid canner in the group, FatFutures. Anyone else??
If your back burner is bigger than the other three, and has 6 daisys instead of the usual 4, then it is the 12000 BTU version. If so, I definitely have burner envy.
My devious little mind did come up with something, though. I have 2 Chambers stoves!!! I could always convert the second one's thermowell over to the super burner in the future if I ever felt the need. Of course, that would probably mean buying another stove for the parts, and I think my husband might have a couple things to say about that...
He's been such a good sport, but we're a bit crunched for space in a 700 sq. foot house!
It's always an option, though. Canning was what drove me to a gas stove in the first place, so I guess it is a bit of a priority for me that it works well. We'll see how I feel after I get my stove up and running.
