(yeah, I know this reaks of sillyness, but it had to be done) LOL!
General European criticism of US measures to fight terrorism and specifically Spain's decision to pull out of Iraq after the Madrid train bombing has only emboldened the fanatics to demand more. It has given the impression of a divided front more easily attacked. I suppose Europe has lost the lesson of Chamberlain's duping by Hitler and his "peace in our time" nonsense. Give the muslims an inch and they demand a mile. France is on the verge of losing its national identity and while I regret the loss to islam, they asked for it.
The cartoons violated a muslim tradition of not depicting Muhammed, and they did so on the first day of Ramadan. So excuse them for being a bit offended.
How is this any different than the American Family Association boycotting NBC for having Britney Spears show up on "Will and Grace" as a Christian television cooking show host who has a segment called "Cruci-fixins". Christians were angry that this was to appear just before Easter so NBC had it removed.
Why is it that conservative Christians are the only ones allowed to have their religious sensibilities offended these days?

I did not realize that the publication was on the first day of Ramadan. That seems insensitive, but I have to come down on the side of free speech. It is a long held standard in Denmark as it is here.
I find it far more appalling that NBC caved to protestors and engaged in self-censorship.

I don't condone fanatical Christian groups either. But I don't see Christians this day and age foaming at the mouth the way these muslim fanatics are doing. The only "Christian" group that comes close to this kind of revolting display of intolerance is this group in the news all the time at www.godhatesfags.com disrupting funerals and other national events. They are not torching buildings, blowing up cars and killing people though as revolting as their sentiments may be.
I don't care how "offended" the muslim world was by those cartoons. Let's see, it's ok to cut the head off of captives, fly planes into the twin towers, send children with bombs strapped on them to blow up busy market centers in Israel, blow up trains in Spain and kill people, blow up the subway in London. But we in the west should be more "sensitive" to muslim sentiments? Give me a break.
