That is so cool thanks for sharing I find this intresting because I have a Samantha.

I'd like a specific date for my PM Samantha. She came in a white box with a horizontal band and her tights said Made in Taiwan 1993. I think she is late nineties but she has a chubby face, softer vinyl than Mattel, very little face paint, and very curly hair.

My Sam fit all the late 80s ones except has a peach torso. So there were some late 80s ones with peach torsos. She/he even has the lighter hair. It's almost Marisol's color. Dress was tagged Made in West Germany for Pleasant Company(so made pre 1991)

My 1987 Kirsten and my (sister's) 1988 Samantha had ribbons on their boxes and not bands like the later boxes. Meg has a history of AG boxes in her Guide

I have three Samantha dolls. Two have white bodies and one tan body.
The oldest Samantha was bought from PC in January 1988. So I think we can surmise she was made in 1987 or before. Her white box came with a cream satin ribbon wrapped lengthwise around the box. She came with her catalog and AG receipt. Her hair is light brown, and a thinner face. She does have long dark brown if not black eyelashes that curve at the ends that feel stiff to the touch. She has the c above Pleasant Company on the back of her neck, printed kind of large and arches a bit. The wig comes close to the pm stamp. I cannot see a artist mark, but it may be under the wig. Her neck strings are flat. Her skin tone is a bit tan with peach cheeks. (I have a white Molly doll that was bought the same year, she has a artist mark and her Pleasant Company on the back of her neck is large arched with the C above the P.)
The second white Samantha has a artist mark with the c next to the Pleasant Company. The letters are smaller and are in a straight line across the neck. She does have the darker brown hair, and thinner face. Her lashes are long dark brown and curl at the ends and feel stiff to the touch. Her neck strings are round. (This Samantha is getting ready to hug Addy in the picture below.) Her skin tone is a bit tan with peach cheeks.
All Pleasant Company dolls made from 1986 - 1989 had white bodies. Sometime in 1990 when Felicity came out all dolls were then made with tan bodies. (I am sure there were still white bodied dolls for sale in 1990, they were just not making anymore white bodies dolls.)
My last Samantha is a PM doll but with a tan body. She has a artist mark with the c next to the PC, which is even smaller. Her hair is dark brown and her lashes are long dark brown and and look to be blunt cut. The lashes are very soft to the touch. She has a pale complication and very rose full cheeks. Her neck strings are round.
Hope this helps.

I spoke to a person at AG who has worked there since it was Pleasant Company and she said that all of the dolls made from 1986 until Felicity had the white muslin bodies and no body tags. The dates on the tags make everything very confusing because people think that was when the item was made--instead the date is related to the copyright and/or trademark for the item.

Do you have a time line for any of the other dolls?
-
thank you so very much for all the information, i have samantha and enjoy knowing about her and ones from other times, i look forward to getting a white body or at least one with chubby face

My Samantha and my mom's Kirsten are both from the end of 1990 and have tan bodies. Felicity didn't come out until the following year, so they must have switched from the white bodies a year or two before Felicity's introduction.
