OT-Record High Gas Prices!!

I hope everyone has been coping with these skyrocketing prices. I know around here it is right at $3 a gallon and in the city(Chicago) it's about 20 cents more. I'm starting to think more about where and when I have to drive so I can consolidate as many trips/errands as possible. At least I have a bike so when it gets warm enough I'll try to ride my bike more.

Mabye the high gas prices will help the obesity epidemic-more people walking, biking, rollerblading, etc. means more exercise! I hope to exercise more this summer-I really need it!

Had anyone been planning a road trip thos summer to AGP or anywhere else and rethinking their plans? More $ for gas means less money for dolls(and other things)! [img]eek.gif[/img] [img]graemlins/car.gif[/img] [img]graemlins/sun.gif[/img]

We are leaving on 5/13 for Idaho. We live in MD. We travel in our truck pulling our 5th. wheel camper. We cannot change our plans since our youngetst grandson is graduating from High School.

When we traveled last summer in California, we put on 1500 miles on our rental vehicle - an SUV because we had our 3 kids with us. We flew to San Francisco, drove to Monterrey, then took Coastal Hwy 1 South and went across the state to Yosemite National Park. Gas was $4 per gallon.!!!! [img]graemlins/cry.gif[/img]

This year, we are not traveling. We went to Mexico in November, so no summer vacation for us. Last year was very expensive.

We are traveling all over the place this summer. [img]smile.gif[/img] To Alabama to help with the relief efforts and then to Jackson Hole Wyoming/Yellowstone for a family reunion. I know that we are going to spend a small fortune on fuel. [img]confused.gif[/img]

yeah back up to $3 a gallon, but I am driving my car less, with my car being undependable so I am not driving to the bay area as much and it being broken into this week [img]graemlins/whatever.gif[/img] Also the boyfriend has been driving me around lately [img]smile.gif[/img]

I was tickled pink yesterday to pay 2.84 a gallon in NJ. It is over $3.00 in NY

I am still debating Madison

We were going to AGPLA and Disneyland. We have changed our plans to Disney World. I'm a little sad but this will save us money in more ways than one [img]tongue.gif[/img] . The girls will still bring a doll along and will be getting one for their birthdays while on the trip but it just won't be the same as going to AGPLA [img]frown.gif[/img] .

The big difference between USA and Europe is the public transportation...most of us just cant get easy public transportation...in some towns there just isnt any....other places it is just to far to walk to get to it...

I, luckily, live less than 10 miles from work and drive a small car. My husband often bikes to work- because of the condition of the roads and the amount of hills, I unfortunately can't do that.

For us, if we are traveling less than 2000 miles driving is usually cheaper than flying- if we have the time to spare. So the gas prices are only affecting me in that everyone has increased shipping prices, airfare is ridiculous and grocery costs have gone up. If it stays about the $3 range I'll be okay with it. Maybe the people in their huge SUVs who don't have lots o' children in them (I don't have a problem with families needing big cars- but one person who just drives back and forth?) will rethink them- so far that hasn't happened, it appears.

We were expecting it to go SKY HIGH. Last summer, we planned our trip to WDW for September/OCtober and the gas prices went up really high just before our trip. We leave for our May trip in less than two weeks so we figured that the prices would start rising. It really makes a difference money-wise!
