Best Device to Record Clinics

Ed's Gadd clinic recording got me thinking about what is the best device used to record clinics and Live gig in smaller clubs. Also include mic options and insight for best mic placement.

I'm not an expert at all Pocket, but for simplicity, a mini-dis is great for capturing the overall sound and vibe of a gig. You can by the little soni-mic or invest in a couple as is your want.

These are great and can be placed on a table after you've set up and away you go. Later, you can put track markings in and take out all the breaks between tracks and even swap them around!

You won't get a 'close' sound, but if you just want a record of how you played, then this is just great. Obviously if you want a more detailed record, then you'll have to get a more elaborate recording set up. It's just that a mini-disc is so easy to use.

I've been recording some clinics with MD and a great great great great microphone made by SONY specificly for musicians it's about $100.00 and it can be in the most extreme volume situations and never never never never will distort.

Hey in the pocket which mic is that? Do you have the model #?

I use that same Sony mic with MD. Pocket, that's the setup I used for the Virgil BP recording. If you can, it's best to turn off the dynamic compressor and set the level manually, but sometimes that's not possible.
