800 pound speakers - Community Leviathan II

My buddy's boss just picked up 2 of them down in Virginia. 6' tall, 6' wide, and 7' deep. 800 pounds. Each speaker has six 15" woofers. Can't wait to hear them.

Anyone ever listen to these ?

I heard some Leviathan's in a stadium somewhere once - seems like it was in Texas - didn't "talk" as clearly, to my ears, as the 203B's or the big multicells, and especially not as good as the Altec MR42-series of MANTARAY's with dual-290's.

WOW - those things can talk real loud AND clear!

Those were early versions - the newer Leviathan's may be better...dunno for sure.

The leviathan 2 is a bit different from the Leviathan.

Louder than stink. It's a stadium speaker, I'm not real impressed with a lot of community driver choices. Profit over quality. They do play loud and dependably.

Scaling from the pics, that's likely about a 65 Hz bass horn.

Theoretically, compared to a 210, advantage Community.

No bass ports- advantage 210.

About 15 times the power capacity- advantage Community.

Anyway I slice it, comes back to loud.

These would qualify more as Just Big and Loud than come units from a manufacturer who shall remain nameless.

I remember the paper. I'm surprised that technology hasn't been revisited, with the interim improvements is high speed valves and controllers.

When it comes to sound quality - not quantity -
is it advantage Community, or advantage Altec ?

Since the Leviathan II has six 15's per speaker, we should really compare them to an Altec A1
VOTT.

And how will they compare to an Altec A2 ?

Quality in my opinion the Community will lose badly.

Community uses a lot of cheap drivers.

Community has been around nearly 50 years- see any collectible Community sites?

How many Community sellers offer to ship to Japan?

It's a LOUD speaker.

I don't want to get into another silly argument comparing Peaveys and Community stuff to Altec. We have been down that road.

Just trying to learn more about them.

Never seen or heard them.

They are kind of bizarre.....
