Perhaps my memory is failing, but when the Jones boys had their camp at CVC last year, didn't it cost around $150-200 for each kid attending?
Contrast that with Jason Witten and his camp at Elizabethton. Free for everyone.

I don't know about the price, but Witten's camp was free and I believe the kids got more out of his camp.
Why would pro football players charge for a camp?
It was supposedly to cover the cost of a tee shirt or something like that.

Simple: because they can. I mean, why would you come back to your home town, where you were loved and adored, and do something out of the kindness of your heart? There are a lot of things I do not like about Jason Witten, but this is one time I can't fault him. Last year, he left as basically a murder suspect for what happened on the lake, but yet he returned this year ... and still did the camp without charge.
He wasn't even in Elizabethton at the time of the boating accident. He was in Dallas when that happened. As a matter of fact, the businessman who was supposed to be involved in the matter with him, wasn't even on the lake either. Turns out it was a dentist from Gate City. Jason was quickly ruled out as a suspect in that case.

because they have a service they can provide to others that not many others can........being a professional football player who can teach kids how to play the game
if given the choice who would you rather pay to learn from
an NFL player who is among the top 5 or 6 at his respective position
or
some fat slob of a HS coach with his belly hanging over his shorts and pastrami hanging out of his mouth
i think its a simple choice
It is called, giving back to your community, like the NFL likes to promote the United Way charities.
