courteous drivers

I think last year I made comments in regards to this very subject but since it has come back up yet again I will repost....

First off, I have a little bit of a drive in the mornings to get from home to work, not a major one, but I do go from Big Stone to Wise....

Second...I understand that some parents or otherwise feel the need to take their kids to and from school for whatever reason...some legit reasons some are just due to being too lazy to get up in time in the mornings, some due to not wanting the school bus education for the children (which hell ain't all that friggin bad)

No matter what the reason you have for taking your kids to school, can you at least do some courteous things for others...

every once in a while do the little wave and let a person off of a side road, come one traffic is already backed up you won't get there that much later

here is the biggie get your illegal driving butt out of the middle of the intersection, or if the light is red, don't run it simply to try and get ahead by a few minutes, and esp don't run it just to sit in the intersection and block those of us that are trying to get to work.

The other day I was watching as the intersection was blocked yet again by someone who ran the red light, the car in my lane was easing up so they could go when the car cleared, the car in the turning lane a full minute or so after the light turned red just kept on turning, not only doing something illegal but gave the car who had the right away looks and nearly hit him. I admired that car, and wished it was my truck which is more intimidating than the little car trying to get through. FINALLY we got through that time, and I realized that the car I was admiring was my dear own father...it brought a smile to my face, I even called him and said I needed to do that maneuver the next time I was up there. So please for the love of God can any of you that like blocking traffic please stop or get off the road, there are lights for a reason. I usually make it to work on time, despite the stupidity and ignorance that is on the road, all I want to do it get to work...that's it. I have a job, I like keeping the job, I really don't mind my work most days. I pay taxes that help keep the schools running as well as the cops paid not to mention fixing roadways and traffic lights. Go back to the DMV, get a clue, the book ain't that hard to read. All I can say is: I hear ya!

what gets me is they get mad when you react...they are driving illegally, yet they get mad at those of us that are not. lord whatever happened to riding a daggon bus to school.

Oh yes the "CANT YOU SEE I'M MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOU ON THIS ROAD EVEN IF I AM ILLEGAL" look.. yes yes...

I've heard, with regards to riding a bus:
"MY kid will never ride a horrible bus"
"MY kid wont associate with THOSE other kids"
and other crazy things.
My own mother is now one of those people. Ugh. We rode the bus come hell or high water - if we missed the bus we paid dearly. Now her grandchildren are chauffeured to school.
Dont think we haven't pointed out this disparity.... (she laughs at us)

How about the ones that get to school at 2:00 to wait on their child who gets out at 3:25?

bet they complain about gas prices as they sit there for more than an hour with the engines and AC running lol

My driver complaint is the people coming out of Pound/Clintwood onto 23, who apparently have to make sure its clear all the way to Pikeville before they go across. I sat backed up there the other morning every bit of 20 minutes. I sat there and counted at least 10 times that a vehicle could have went, but I guess that they don't think anybody else has places to be, since they probably don't.

Amen brother!! That intersection confounds me. VDOT actually widened the two lane road to create a real turn lane even though a lot of people were squeezing in to the right making there own -- it hasn't helped a bit. Apparently it has to be clear to Robos AND to Jenkins before some people will venture across the intersection. The real problem is with some people trying to turn south onto US23. Come on folks, there is plenty of room in the median crossover for you to pull a regular sized vehicle into and wait for the inside southbound lane to clear for you to enter traffic. That's right, if the inside lane is clear you can drive though the intersection and proceed south -- BOTH LANES DO NOT HAVE TO BE CLEAR!!! Its obvious that this simple concept was either omitted entirely or just breezed over during the driver's ed classed being taught over the years. Pull this crap in any urban area and you'd either be shot or your car would to shoved out of the way due to JUSTIFIED road rage. I hope school is back on regular schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 2nd so we working people that have to be somewhere by 8am can get a little break.

Ms. Elisabeth and elpn6, you both hit the nail on the head about today's parents refusal to make their kids ride the bus. Most buses that I see anymore are half full or less -- thats as big a waste of money as anything else that may be going on in the school system. They still have to plan and run those bus routes just as if most kids are going to ride them, but most don't nowadays. What is so bad about it? Can somebody please explain it? I rode the bus most of my HS years including most of my senior year. I don't remember the type of stigma that is associated with it today back then. Sure the 'privileged kids' drove and some parents dropped their kids off, but not like today. Maybe if gas finally goes over $5/gal., maybe they will be nudged into making kids ride the bus, but I doubt it.

Try driving in Kentucky. Half of them don't know what's going on. On my way back to Berea, we ogt in a construction zone in Pineville. The right lane was closed. A couple of people would not let me into the left lane and I also came across other people like that between Pineville and Corbin.
