We know about the history Giles County has had with a couple of our Region D teams in the last couple of years, specifically Haysi in 2005 and Powell Valley in 2004 and 2006.
Now, if Gate City wins the Region D Div II championship and goes on to play Giles County, it could be an interesting game. Have Gate City and Giles County played in recent years? Who in Region C did GC play in 2003 when they won the state championship?

Gate City and Giles have only played once, which was in the 1982 season, think it was Ragsdale's fourth or fifth year as head coach. Both schools were Group AA at the time. Giles defeated Gate City 15-12.
They played Radford in the '03 state semi-finals.
So, this could be a whole new chapter here if GC advances.
Giles has had some good teams in the last few years.

Giles County has earned a reputation of competing well with Region D teams. From what I've read, Giles is not quite as strong as they were last year, but will still be a big hurdle for Region D.

Never know, It could be George Wythe vs. Powell Valley in the state semis
Yeah back in 02, it seems like Floyd County would dominate but GW came out and ended up winning state.
I wouldn't be surprised! And, that would be a good match up too.
On a site note, the comments I've read on other forums would indicate that Div II gets even tougher up state than Giles County with Goochland and Gretna.

Gretna's probably the favorite.
Ever since I can remember, the favorites have always been up state...but favorite doesn't matter come game day.
