They also need to discuss how to have your team prepared to play in a big game. The D played a pretty good game for the most part. They usually get no help and are constantly defending a short field.
Splitting time with quarterbacks is not a good idea. To me, that would send the rest of the offense a signal that you have no confidence in either quarterback.
It can work. Washington got a share of the 1991 national title with a 2 qb system. Most of the time though, it doesnt work. When the Huskies won that way, Hobert played the 1st half and Brunnel played the 2nd half.
Yeah, but there just seemed to be no rhyme or reason for Beamer's choice as to who was going to play one series to the next.
My 2 cents worth and I'm a Hokie .
Tech has turned its program into a top 20 team year in year out . Most on the board will disagree but they can play w/ most anyone . LSU being a glaring example of a good team being overwhelmed by a great team and no one could stop the bleeding once it started , it was like a deer in the headlights . Yes the ACC is overall weaker than the SEC . Tech needs a new offensive coordinator , Stinesprings playcalling has been awful lately . Last night Ore was gaining 4-8 yds per carry and we were still throwing deep balls one after another . Yes throw one now and again to try and catch the secondary sleeping but when the running game is going well "Run the freakin ball" and throw some short passes . Fosters D played a pretty good game but the Offense lost the game . 3 interceptions and a blocked field goal will lose 9 of 10 games . I would like to see more big name non conference games on the schedule but I doubt it will happen other than one here and one there .
I hope they can get over the hump and get to the next level w/ the program .
I agree that a new OC is needed but Beamer is too loyal IMO to make the change. My fear is that Foster gets sick of mediocre O and leaves. The 2 QB system can work if done right ala UF last season. And for what VT can recruit in Blacksburg they do a pretty good job.
I think Tech was the better team last night, buy if you don't execute, make silly mistakes, come in unprepared (think Oklahoma), and for whatever reason go away from the one thing that is working (the run) then it's very hard to win (you Chokie).
What can you say but the Jayhawks whipped our asses. The first quarter was the end all for the Hokies. There's really no excuse for the way they played. It's the same ole [censored] another bowl, another lost, maybe next year we can win the isuckdonkeyballs.com bowl, lol.
Could we win that one with a dual QB system?
I think the 2 QB system is about a must for VT, with what they had. Nobody thought Glennon was great, but Tyrod showed he wasn't ready for it either. I never understood the idea of the deep ball, especially going at Kansas' strength.
I know some love to hate on Tech, and that's fine and good, but I remember going to a VT homecoming game around 20 years ago, and basically being able to lay down and watch the game. Nobody could really name a player on the team, and the highlight was the band.
You watch the teams that year in/year out stay near the top 10, and the list is pretty short. You'll have your teams appear for a year or two, then disappear into the black holes that they came from. Tech has firmly established themselves as a B level program. A consistent top 15 quality team, who granted doesn't play a top-notch schedule, but how many teams outside of the SEC do? I mean it's been made fun of almost all year who Ohio State played out of conference (or that matter in conference). Just in case people wanna cut on Tech, let's remember who Ohio State played.
Youngstown State (38-6)
Akron (20-2)
@ Washington (33-14)
Northwestern (58-7)
@ Minnesota (30-7)
@ #23 Purdue (23-7)
Kent State (48-3)
Michigan State (24-17)
@ #25 Penn State (37-17)
#21 Wisconsin (38-17)
loss to Illinois (28-21)
@ #21 Michigan (14-3)
Quite the murder's row there, no?
