I was watching some bands on TV during games and thought 2 things. 1. it would be funny if they were running in place bands. 2. It would be so weird to go to a football game and not hear one.
I remember going to high school game when I was younger and hearing the band at games. Seemed to add a little more excitement to the whole atmosphere. On the other hand I could have care less about watching them at halftime.
Field show and parades are the number one things marching bands work on. Always enjoyed them. Will enjoy teaching them.
I for one always dig the running ones. Probably won't have mine do that when I get the job. I always enjoyed swinging the horns in the stands at games and swinging tubas.
I enjoyed hearing them in the stand a whole lot. Always got me pumped up. I guess I was always taking a leek or standing at the concession stand when they where on the field. But man it would but less exciting atmosphere for sure without them there.
I loved watching Powell Valley's Journey show this year. I helped them at band camp. There is a tuba player who is a senior and had a solo in the last piece. The kid has always gotten into the music he was playing.
Probly one of the coolest things I had ever sseen was St paul's band. They had about 5 people in it and they had a bass guitar and they would play another one bites the dust.
One year, many moons ago, they had a keyboard on the field. Problem with that though was the music was pre-recorded and the individual at the keyboard just pretended to play LOL

St. Pauls is usually very good for their size. Sheila King has done a good job at RC. They were terrible for a while. That is a good thing about officiating. You get to catch parts of bands from all over the area in pregame or halftime. Richlands and Graham are some of the best bands/shows I have saw in my time officiating. The year Pirates of he Caribbean seemed to be everywhere, Graham had a huge cardboard ship (I guess thats what it was made of) and fired cannons from it at the end of the show.

2 years ago - they did a very nice job with that. Good music and good effects.

Unfortunately, the students just "play loud." It's their only claim to fame (and sure, not all small bands can). It was impressive back in '88, '89 with House of the Rising Sun...
