10 yards from the originial line of scrimmage, loss of down, unless of course the QB was more than 10 yards behind the line of scrimmage when he threw the ball, the ball is then placed there.
If he's in his own red zone, is it half the distance?
I know it's a safety if he's in the end zone.
Lets set this straight by NFHS rules.
Intentional grounding is a 5 yard penalty with a loss of down. The penalty is enforced from the spot of the foul (where the passer threw the ball.) If it happened inside the 10 yard line, then it would be half the distance, and if it happened in the end zone, it would be a safety.
That used to be the rule at all levels until the NCAA and NFL decided the QB should be wearing a dress. I still think it should have 5 yards tacked on at the upper levels as well, cuz as it stands it's just spot of the foul and loss of down anywhere except high school. So, really, the QB can do anything he wants to and not be further penalized, because the worst they are gonna do is mark him where he's at. But, IMO high school rules make more sense than NCAA or NFL rules 99% of the time anyways...cuz they are purer and closer to what the rules originally were to begin with.Quote:

Ok here ya go fans. Play situation that actually happened to me this year.
20 sec on the clock with the clock running at the end of the second quarter with the ball on the offense 45 yard line 3rd and 6. Coach for the offense tells the QB to spike the ball to stop the clock. QB lines up in the shotgun and spikes the ball. Whats the call? Officials leave this one alone let the general public have a shot.

Had he lined up and spiked the ball from under center (read: not in the pocket), then it's an incompletion.
