EV Patrician 800 Something you don't see often

VINTAGE ELECTRO VOICE PATRICIAN 800 SPEAKER - eBay (item 230474173308 end time May-22-10 18:32:42 PDT)

Never seen one of these monsters comes with a 30" woofer 4-way system.

Frequency Response 15 hz to 23Khz. Does anybody know anything about this system ??

Serious monster.

Would rather have the dollar amount in Altec or JBL though.

Was never a fan of the big EV woofer in any incarnation.

Accelerating a cone that big presents issues...stopping it too...a mass in motion tends....etc.

I was reading this link and it says that the cone is made out of foam.Probably for weight as you suggest trying to move a cone that big.It must move large amounts of air though.

The sides of the cabinet look tapered it is a corner horn I guess.

Gotcha !! But what I found interesting was that it the 30" foam cone woofer crossed over at 100 Hz and says it is the largest successful driver ever produced.Highly efficient down into the 35-40 Hz region.I never heard one so I wouldn't know how they actually sound.But would like to.

Didn't sell many so I question successful...

Ever notice how horns tend to have a very dynamic, fast bass?

30W is the opposite...more of a drone...tends to round everything off...not much attack.

* AB I think you are in the area - there were a few of the EV's floating (no pun) around on CL a few months back... I can see if I can dig up email add's if interested... do not recall exactly, but IIRC at least one, or one set had damage. The other set, wanted multi-thousands.

The Hartley woofer...22-24inches in a horn loaded sub-woofer is the best big woofer I ever done heard....
