We Are All Football-Starved
Let's get some debate, thoughts, opinions going on this upcoming HS football season. I know I'm not the only one on here chomping at the bit for kickoff. In the LPD,Clintwood should be the clear favorite with teams like PV,JIB,and JJK all pretty much in the same mix. On the Reservation,B.I. has some key folks to replace, but he's got a solid group of kids ready to step in and contribute. What are you guys (and gals) on here looking for from your team this season?
Re: We Are All Football-Starved
I look for the Raiders to go 4-6 and have a lot of payback handed to them this season. will not be pretty in Norton under the Friday Night Lights. Just wonder how many true fans will still be sitting with me. bad thing is that it will be skewed because of finacial situations will have even some of the die hard fans sitting home. Just for me and mine to go it is at the very least $20 and I can only imagine with a family of 4 or 5.
Re: We Are All Football-Starved
Clintwood will beat everyone in the LPD by three touchdowns. It will be the worst season of LPD football ever. I just hope CW doesn't get hurt by lack of competition and can make a run to the state title.
Re: We Are All Football-Starved
Does it really matter? Clintwood may win everything in the LPD but Lebanon or Gate City will win the region an even if for some reason Clintwood gets by one of those two, they will lose the state final. Same ol Same ol! Football is horrible now because its the computer age. Nobody wants to work and get bigger or better. The kids are too small. Nothing like it was in the 80's and mid 90's. The worst in the LPD then could beat the LPD's best now.. Its horrible!

Well we know Clintwood won't beat Gate City and Lebanon in the D2 Region D finals because Clintwood is in Division I.
I don't have confidence that PV will have a much better season than the past few season.
All the state championship teams from PV, Appalachia (even the 5 loss 89 D1 state champ Appy), Gate City, Burton, and Clintwood would beat the current best teams in the area. The 2002 and 2003 Gate City teams would whomp the ones from the past few seasons. The infamous 2001 Pound team which went 0-10 would give the current Pound team a run for their money.
Where are the old players from SWVA like Thomas Jones, Julius Jones, Shane Tucker, Robbie Duncan, Matt Stidham, Matt Osbourne, Jake Houseright, Travis Turner, Travis Clark, Justin Hamilton, Josh Mabe, Ricky Webb, the Sensabaugh brothers?
I'm not putting down the talent of the current guys we have but during the very few SWVA games I've watched in football the past few years, the enthusiasm is no longer there.
Re: We Are All Football-Starved
Way too early predictions.
1. Clintwood: They were pretty young last year and still managed a co-district championship. The back-to-back district champion wave will continue to roll to a 3rd straight in 2010.
2. JJ Kelly: No team has made as much improvement over the last 5 years as the tribe. BI has turned the ship around and will continue to make progress. Key losses on the OL will be tough to replace.
3, Powell Valley: Even with a 2009 co-district championship the last two years have been rough for the vikes. I believe they will end the 2 year streak of 5-6 finishes but will not be in contention for a repeat district championship.
4. Burton: The Raiders have been on the slow decline since 2007 and this year will be the biggest drop. No one will be able to replace what Miles did for this team. As someone said in this thread, Burton will get paid back a lot this year for the countless whippings they put on other teams.
5. Appalachia: The dawgs have also hit a rough 2 year stretch going 1-9 and 5-5. This year will not see improvement as a lot of dawgs graduate.
6. Pound: Will be lucky to field a team this year. If the Cats have even 20 players on the roster I'll be surprised. Its looking like a 0-10 or 1-9 season for first year coach jason hicks.
Re: We Are All Football-Starved
gate city is the clear clear fav in case you didn't know. im not being a ***** gc fan im being honest. leb lost alot. no one else from the cmd but va high is threatening. gate city returns every skill player and loses two linemen on each side of the ball. they replace the o line spots with a half time starter last year very strong, 1000lb club, and a freshman coach reeds son; who is expected to do great. return 3 all state players both the clarks that go both sides of the ball. and jo vo the running back or full back this year since dusty clark is rumored to be moving to rb and let someone throw the ball around to the much improved WR's. defense will be great as allways. return 18 of 21 starters.
Re: We Are All Football-Starved
i agree noone will be able to replace miles, but a slow decline since 2007 in that span lets see 2 region d finals and 1 state game appearance! that is a slow decline?
