Libido booster for women to get FDA consideration

When men show up at the pharmacy to pick up prescription drugs for sex problems, they have several options. Viagra. Cialis. Levitra. That hasn?t been the case for women with similar problems. But a Food and Drug Administration panel next month will debate approving a pill that could bring on the demise of this double standard. The drug, called flibanserin, has been developed to boost women?s libido.

?The most common sexual problem for women is low desire,? says Sheryl Kingsberg, a clinical psychologist with University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio. ?These women are really distressed by it.?

The German drug company Boehringer Ingelheim developed flibanserin as an antidepressant. The drug didn?t work as a treatment for depression, but it did produce a surprising libido-enhancing side effect in some women.

?There are millions of women who have a sexual life that is problematic for them,? says Michael Sand, the company?s director of clinical research.

According Sand, women taking flibanserin experience an increase in sexual desire and satisfying sexual activity and a decrease in emotional distress.

If the FDA approves flibanserin, Kingsberg says, the drug will be a game changer.

?If nothing else, it's going to open the door to women knowing that they're entitled to good quality sexual health. That it's not just for men anymore,? Kingsberg says.

Boehringer Ingelheim plans to discuss its findings on flibanserin with the FDA on June 18.

Next week on CNN, Senior Medical Correspondent Elizabeth Cohen will explore female libido and what?s available now to help restore a lagging sex drive.

Useless pill. Nothing wrong with their desire, women want it just as bad as men, they just hold their self together a lot better, they can be picky too. Odds are if the woman isn't wanting it, its because of your shortcommings.

Words spoken by a young man in an age group where the young ladies largely have sex just for the attention from young men.
You just turned 20 years old. The girls in your age group aren't the focus group of this study.
Come back in 15, 20 years and tell us how you feel.

I'm perplexed that anyone would actually think that way.
Harkens back to the "no means no" campaign and the time when "she wanted it" was a defense for rape... (not saying that's what you've said here but that's what it's reminiscent of).

And that's definitely true in some cases with them, but trust me, they have no problems shooting you down and have no problems acting like a guy wanting to do it every other second. They like it just as much, they just don't act like drooling dogs like we do, they have the control and they know it. When I said 'shortcommings', I didn't really mean something has to be actually short. Ha What I meant was a ten-sec tom type, a boring type or some guy who just doesn't ever know what he's doing...that would cause any womans desire to go down. Basically I don't think it just something that changes because the woman gets older, its just a product of a boring sex life for whtever reason(which they're more than likely to be married) which means that its probably turned into a routine that makes them not so eager to have sex at that age. I just think its like that more than not, not something that a pill could fix, this IMO would have a placebo effect because well its not going to do anything if its still boring to her. And its definitely not what I'm saying, while she may want it just as much, its still completely up to her every single time...I'm just saying when she doesn't want to, its not because of a low desire for sex, its more likely a low desire for sex with you(the guy).

My recommendation is you may just want to stop there and not continue to try to defend your very incorrect theories. In recent times some of your posts have really matured and people will now stop and listen to you, but you just took a half dozen giant leaps backwards here by insulting all men that have dealt with this and by basically calling the women liars.

You are a 20 year old young man chasing teenagers/college-age girls. You have no first hand knowledge and you can't fathom at your age how someone could not want to have sex. Yes some girls your age do act like you describe but as I said before, carefree college girls seeking attention are not the focal group here.

The fact that you think older women dont want want it because they're bored with it or bored with the guy demonstrates in a nutshell you dont even understand the problem at hand. You should do a little research on the subject before you try to compare middle-age+ adult life with chasing college girls. The research is out there and worth taking a look into.

I'm going to have to leave it at that, get back to work, and pretend I didn't even read this thread to begin with.

R13, women in the age range that this study focused on have many more problems than their partner's "shortcomings." The majority of these women suffer from lots of medical conditions, such as depression, that can severely decrease their desire to have sex. They tend to be overstressed which affects desire, as well. And if that's not bad enough, the medications they take for these conditions can also severely affect their desire. I know this from personal experience. You really should think or read up on subjects you know almost nothing of before posting.

Lmao okay. Yup, I'm completely off. A lower sex drive could not possibly be because of anything I've said, its just as exciting as it was when they were 20 as it is when they're 40...so nooooo, that couldn't be it. I'm saying that their low sex drive is real obviously, but in most cases a product of years of a lackluster sex life with their partner IMO...and (insert problem) being a result of enviroment isn't something I come up with. Sex is sex, at 40 and at 20, its still sex. Of course somethings change over time, but its still pleasurable at any age. What's the main difference between it at my age and 20 years from now? The excitement. When you're young you're willing to try different things, in different places at all different times...when you're older, you're a lot less likely to do anything close to that, that its reserved for young people. No one is saying any of what you said I did, never called them a liar at all, they're not lying...I'm saying the reason behind why they don't want to, can't be cured with a pill. If sex became a routine, only a certain night of the week, between such ans such hours, really just going through the motions would get old to me too and turn me off from it. I'm not saying its the case with everyone, but IMO with most. Keeping it exciting(which there's a million ways to do so) would increase their desire a whole lot, not a pill. We've gotten so **** lazy that we look for a pill to fix everything(which its necessary sometimes, don't get me wrong), but putting forth some effort in something like this would help things incredibly...not a doubt in my mind. Nothing I've said is wisdom that's aquired, its really common sense and I could find a million studies that basically say the same thing about excitement...not one thing I've said is nowhere as near as far off as you're saying or taking it.



I haven't put guys down either, nothing I've said isn't truth, if the truth hurts then oh well. At 40, I would take reponsibility for myself. Instead of putting the blame on her, I'd look and see what I'm doing and what I'm not doing to possibly cause it. Staying in somewhat good shape, getting out of the (insert position) every now and then, not being lazy etc. Etc. A million things I could do to make it better if that was the case when I'm that age, if I do my part and it still doesn't work, then yeah I'm all for a pill to try out. But I see something like that as a last resort and laziness on the guys part. Not trying to get personal, but I don't get anything out of it if she's not, thatd be the biggest turn off in the world for me...unsatisfaction. So because I think it comes down to effort/excitement more times than not, I don't think I'll have a problem - hopefully I won't, but it won't be because of lack of effort if I do. I just think that the reasons behind 'her desire to' has more to do with things that can be fixed/improved.
