why would JJ Kelly get a new school?
so looking at a new plan in the paper and listening to others on tv at these meeting why does everyone get renovated but JJ Kelly gets a new school? if renovations are the way to go then Kelly shouldn't be any better than the others right? maybe I'm just not seeing something, i'm confused!!!!!!! is there really any way that Kelly is in such awful shape but these other schools are not in the same shape. are they not the same age??
Re: why would JJ Kelly get a new school?
This is what the whole thing has been about for the past 10 years, Wise getting a new school while the rest of the county eats their scraps.

This, I realized I couldn't beat them so I joined them. After living in Big Stone Gap and Appalachia I broke down and moved to Wise. It's time to live the high life boys. If I have kids they will get the best!
Re: why would JJ Kelly get a new school?
J.J. Kelly is the oldest school and is in terrible shape. Admin. there has really neglected up keep.
Re: why would JJ Kelly get a new school?
Ever seen JJK? If anyone needs a new school, it's the Wise area, JJK is probably the most run-down of them all. But I'd like for there to be 3 new schools, not JUST wise, but one definitely in Wise.
Re: why would JJ Kelly get a new school?
It's turned into bowing down to Wise to keep the other schools open. It is pretty pathetic. It's all a big game with people waiting to stab each other in the back at every twist and turn. The idea of investing as much money in one of the smallest schools as you do the largest school when they are in equally poor shape is a joke. The smart thing to do is build two schools one in Big Stone Gap and one in Wise. However, nobody uses common sense because come hell or high water we want Bulldogs, Wildcats, Knights, Deacons, Vikings, and Indians. It's beyond embarassing, how people will children let this go on I will never understand.

I've been out high school for six years. When I was at PV, I took a class in a janitors closest, I took two classes at the same time without guidance finding out (one at MECC, I worked with the teacher to do work), and I took chemistry in a chemistry lab that was unusable. It was so bad that Virginia Tech had to send a huge truck down once a month for us just to do experiments. The AP History course I took was in a trailer parked out behind the high school. Even with all of that, I think the one that beats everything is the earth science class I took, that class was taught in the same area where I dressed for football practice. So, everybody needs a new school (minus St. Paul). It sickens me that the people from Big Stone Gap are perfectly fine with this, I guess there is more Appalachia in us than I thought.

A joke. A big fat stinking joke.
F*** this mess, this schoolboard, and the idiots keeping us from just doing the right thing.
One school in the BSG/Appalachia area and one in the Wise area. Any other solution is STUPID.
Re: why would JJ Kelly get a new school?
I took classes in a 50 year old building that had HVAC, and properly working equipment. For that I am thankful. Its sad that one county can take care of older building and keep them up to date, while another lets them regress to the point of it being cheaper to build half as many new as it is to fix them all. Much less when 3 schools is plenty for the county.

We invest in important things. Football field houses!
