Well what can you say>
Not too many highlights, new Weckl Legacy Sabian's were nice.
Nothing to talk about at Gretsch other then the huge price tag.
LOTS of Live demos at booths this year with killer lineups.
Kurzweil had Matheison, Laborial and Gary Novak and sitting in the 2nd day was Justo Almario on sax (koinonia)
Tama had a glass cage of emotion with drummers in and out.
Digidesign was the booth of performances though, Hiram Bullock, Omar and Victor Bailey. famed live engineer Robert Scovill was behind the new Digi board mixing and of course it sounded amazing.
Along with those guys, the GooGoo dolls, BT and Kelly Clarkson were scheduled to perform aswell.
at Taylor thebig highlight was Tommy Shaw with Jack Blades.
For me, the BIG highlight was heading to Panchos in Manhattan beach along with T-Bo and Danny to see Todd Sucherman and band play.
This was NOT your ordinary cover band, these guys not only played amazing, BUT sang their arses off and of course the playing was off the hook.
Danny and i stayed right up to closing of 2 am.
The new Trick pedal was getting lots of looks
Yamaha had moved from it's separate room at the Marriott into the main hall of the convention center.
Zildjian and a huge sighting of 'cats' signing stuff both Friday and Saturday.
2006 Geekfest was in full swing at Chris' place, started with a fine dinner at Portillos, then off to watch and burn new gems.
Thanks Chris! a pleasure as alwasy hanging with Derek, Jon and of course Danny.
Great to see pocket for more then 5 secs this year and hanging with AndyV.
I had spoken with Tombo but was not able to meet up in person. (sorry for that, but hope you dug the show)
Rare sighting at NAMM was Steve Holmes along with Sammy.
well, there's the brief rundown with I'm sure more to come.

Great meeting up with Randy, Steve Holmes, PocketPlayer, Chooch, LaDanny, Tombo, JoesMechanic, CBrady, drumaddict, Erskoman, Liberty DeVitto, Jojo Mayer, Jonathan Mover, and Dave Weckl!
Caught Weckl and Bozzio at the Sabian night and that massive asembly of drum talent at Yamaha's groove night!
Highlights for me were Erskoman playing some Skunk Funk and Dave on Tower's Soul Vaccination.
Finally met the legendary Freddie Gruber (thanks John).

Once again... you've proven yourself to be a true ambassador of HOD and the drumming community. Thanks so much for the hang and companionship.
Was really really disappointed I didn't get to hang with you guys at Ponchos. I was feeling like crap when I got home friday after work.
Danny, Derek, T-bo, Andy, Tombo, Chooch, CBrady.... It was great hanging with you guys again. Sorry I missed everyone else. But there will be more "hangs" in the future I'm sure.

Danny, T-bo, Dustin? and I had ablast watching these guys.
I know T was having a blast.
To Jon, I'm not worthy man. It's just about hanging and making friends along the way. It was a pleasure being able to spend more then 5 minutes on the floor or getting a drink and then having to split.

Sorry that I was not able to meet up with you guys... I spoke to John on Friday once I got to the show, but unfortunately he was not there yet. He emailed me Randy's number, but I had no access to my email! So I did the show by myself, with wide eyes open looking for some HOD sightings! I was lucky enough to run into Erskoman, but that was my only HOD hang. Peter is such an awesome person! I have some pictures that I will post tomorrow, but nothing more to add that has not already been said. Highlights for me was hanging with Ron Dunnett, Erskoman, DW unveiled a new signature Jim Keltner kit that was just beautiful (pictures tomorrow), and Istanbul Agop's new 22" anniversary ride! Hope to see you guys at the next HOD hang.

john, andy it was great seeing ya again as well as tombo. the groove night was off the chain. the highlights of that event was seeing tommy aldrige just kill that white snake tune. such power and musicality and energy! what an inspiration. another was marvin mcquitty and his singers of 'new breed'. man they blew the roof off that place and marvin was just so amazing! i've heard a few live recordings of fred hammond / israel houghton before, but seeing this guy in person was just off the hook. finally, michael bland just killed on his rendition of a zeppelin tune that i haven't heard before. the crowd gave him so much love. joesmech leans over to me and says. he would make bonzo proud. others that were memorable were - keith carlock, gerry brown (twirling his sticks), JR, and oscar seaton. just awesome time-feel. their pocket really stood out to me the most.
i thought all in all the stuff they had at the show this year wasn't all that much different from last year but it still was cool none-the-less. i heard some talks about the trick pedal but i didn't have a chance to check'em out. i thought shure giving people free molds of your ears (granted you purchase the finished earplugs for your in-ears for 100 bucks) was pretty neat. and of course, i got it done. i also ran into doug pinnick and ty tabor from king's -x and that was pretty neat. totally don't get the credit they deserve. they were ever gracious.
andy, john, nelba, erskoman, tombo - it was definitely a pleasure. we've got to go see this groove night again, next yeart. let's do portillo's before the event!
on a side note - randy i wasn't able to go to ponchos due to rehearsal that ran late for a gig i had in cerritos. [img]frown.gif[/img] well, fate would have it that the gig happened to be in the restaurant across from the performing arts center. so when i wheeled in my kit, i saw aldridge and got to chat with him about his amazing performance. this guy is so humble it surprised me. deflected every compliment i could give him. so soft spoken too. what a kind fellow. also ran into will lee in the restaurant after i was warming up (goofing). he said a few encouraging words. what a bunch of cool dudes. at the top of their games and yet still so down to earth. perhaps that's why they'll always be working. hope to see more of you guys next year. cheers to all HOD-ers! you guys rock!!

Good times, indeed. Great hanging with Danny, (I'm practicing my Steve Perry riffs for our kareoke bash this Friday), Randy, Chris Brady and all my fellow HOD drum nerds.
To Steve and Derek: You guys missed a SICK Todd Sucherman show on Friday. That was probably one of the best bands I've ever seen, anywhere. Truly disgusting.
