I just had half a tank of 93 chevron w/ techron, and I just went to go pump it up with some more. So I did, and when I started my engine it started "sputtering" and the tach would go up and down between 1000 rpm and 200 rpm. Then the CEL came on. I'm pissed. I already took my car to John Eagle Honda before on this problem and I thought it would be gone for good. Now it's back. What could be wrong? Thanks.

Could be the gas. My car HATES that techron shit... it wont run on chevron.
Could be bad gas from that place, most cars wont ever run different so some places think they can cheat by "watering" down the 93 gas a little. Drain the tank or add some type of octane booster see if it helps.
Then again it could be something with your car. Thats still highly possible, I was just trying to think outside the box a little...

Hmm, Yeah. Ok I'll try Mobil or Exxon gas from now on.
Could it be from running too rich? After getting the Velocity Honda/Acura club magazine, I read one article towards the end of it and Oscar Jackson mentioned "running so rich until the car barely idles" and it shutting off. I think possibly John Eagle set it too rich? Thanks for any help.

I had similar problem happen to me but i dont get any CEl on. My car also "sputtering" and dies after ward. I try it to restart and give a little gas until it idles fine and the problem is gone. I tjhink is either too rich o vacum is too low to idle. and it usually happen in the mornig cold start.

I'm making a wild stab here...but since your car was running fine and after the fill up, it sputtered, I would assume it's the gas. Some "older" gas stations might have water condensation in their gas tanks.

The gas station is new so x that out. Any of you guys use Chevron? What gas stations do u prefer? I need to swtich, it couldn't hurt. I bet anything those bastards at John Eagle set my fuel pressure way too rich. Anyone selling a used Fuel Pressure and A/F? I'm broke and need a deal.

tom civic: check ur plugs and see how clack they are. Try this too, ask soe one to rev ur car and see if there is alot of black smoke. if it does, tehn u might be too rich.
Oh, does ur car squeak when it "sputtered"?

Try switching to a better gas. That light prolly came on cause of some bad gas as someone else mentioned it. I've had this problem before when I was just using Texaco then I changed to Exxon. BAD idea!

Pull the code and see what it is. I doubt its the gas but maybe I am wrong. But just in case it is, pull the battery cable reset the ecu and fill up w/ exxon. If it stays off you know it was the gas. My guess however is that it is running too rich.

Well I did reset the ecu using the gas already in the tank and the light is gone now, but I feel like my performance still lacks and my idle starts up at just over 1k and then when I put it in gear drive and stop at a stop sign its way low, like at 400 rpm.
I did check the code when the light was on and it came on, flashed once, and stayed on. That's a code 1. I'll definately check my exhaust for black smoke. Thanks. I'll keep ya updated.
