Before the SC and with my skunk2 exhaust I could hear a significate pop at around 4200 then a second at 5700 these are the stock vtec engagement points correct.
Well with the charger at wot I can't hear vtec engagement anymore. so I experimented and reved with my foot 1/2 way down though 7000. I now hear a pop at more like 5000 and 6500.
Does adjusting the timing throw off vtec engagement? If not I'm confused.
thanks

The Vtec sound is 99% gone with the blower on. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/frown.gif I feel your pain.
Install some big diameter exhaust and you can defenitly hear it again. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif

This is why this board is awesome!!! I had no Idea that the first stage wouldn't engage until 5000 with the gas pedal not down more than 50%. I guess when it was stock I never wanted to rev slowly.
help me out with the coolant question. anyone have ideas.

I have a 2 1/2" exhaust right now. the thing is I can feel it put me in my seat at 6500 instead of 5700 like i thought it should. Any ideas?

vtec engagement is at 4400 and at 5700 on a stock gsr. You of course loose the 2nd stage vtec because of the blower. The first one should still be there. However if you drive slow and not full throttle it won't engage untill 5000 rpm's. Lay into it in 3rd gear at 3000 rpm's and then listen to it come in at 4400. It should work. If not then, something is wrong. Check oil level. Low oil pressures or level will change vtec engagement.

I'm right there with you man. I feel nothing when my VTEC light comes on but around 6500 I get a real kick! I thought it was due to fuel/timing changes from the old secondary runners but that's at 5700. This is exactly at 6500 all the time.
I wish I could find out what's happening there to make it run like that throughout the powerband.
Only thing I can think is that the VTEC pins are worn or the solenoid is sticking and even though the signal is sent to for VTEC at ~4500 the pins don't kick in for another 2000 RPM's.
I know it sounds fishy but I'm stumped. Maybe I'll disable VTEC and see if the kick at 6500 still comes in.

With a stock intake manifold on a GS-R you will hear two distinct changes in the engine tone. The first occurs at 4400RPM when VTEC engages. The second is at 5750RPM when the second set of manifold runners open up, allowing additional air into the engine. As the JSRC setup replaces the stock manifold, this second change in tone is eliminated. Once your engine is warm, give it just over 50% throttle and you should hear your VTEC engage at 4400RPM. Everyone's exhaust setup is different, but I can defintiely hear mine if I'm revving through things at just over 50% throttle. Anything above that and your engine just revs too fast to hear the transition. Remember, Honda engines have extensive onboard diagnostics - If your VTEC were malfunctioning, it will throw a CEL.

If you have a BTC or BTM try adjusting it. Mine was doing the same thing and I found that I had the ignition timing retarded too much and it took until higher rpm's to gain back the power lost. Try dialing it in while under full throttle...you can definatly feel the difference when you retard it too much for the low rpm to handle

Thanks NDM. I will try playing w/ the timing and see if the "power kick" moves at all.
Anyone tried using the MSD BTM only, the one for stock ignitions, not the 6BTM.
