thanks for the tunes. i think escape was the album that introduced me to joureny when i was like 11 years old. i just couldn't stop listening to 'don't stop believin' and 'stone in love'. it's amazing how songs like 'dead or alive' as well 'mother father' just still hold up in terms of mr. smith's prowess and chops. he, imho never gets old. I always thought the tune Escape had a cool little drum groove AW.

That older Jrny, from Infinity, Evolution, Departure, Captured, Escape, & Frontiers was just the schidd for the time period.

I started by hearing Lovin Touchin Squeezin [Evolution] on the radio after school when i was younger, then Departure when it came out just after [Any Way You want It was huge on the charts]. Then I went out & bought them both, & went back & got Infinity too [which was killer, IMHO...Dunbar]. & bought the rest as they came out up through Frontiers & then Raised on radio, which I thought was a superb pop-vocal album AW [Randy Jackson came in on bass about this time, & Londin sharing the chair w SS. A guy named Bob Glaub did some bass tracks also]...AWA Trial By Fire, much later.
I never got the one w the tune from the film Armegeddon, but I've wanted to...

Aaahh, the memories...like the corners of my mind...I should prolly write a song...
I'll call it, "'Da Way We Wuh' [-Whadduh Widdit]" & make it a rap tune...

The thing about Journey vs. Toto is that the Toto melodies and so forth were not distinctive, whereas Journey's were catchy and stuck in your head.

I can still hear Chain Reaction in my head.

And the guitar that follows it...it's right there. I can't think of a Toto song like that. Maybe there was just too much virtuousity in that band. Too many different vocalists as well.
