Sitting here and listening to The Beat Angels "Red Badge" while working, and realizing that even though they are a great band musically, it is the lyrics that help to throw these songs into a different realm. The lyrics for "My Glum Sugar-Plum" are fantabulous, and make a cool song just beyond cool, and is the main reason to listen to that thing.
Are there any songs that you listen to or play for people for mainly the lyrics. Obviously the music needs to be tolerable, but ya know what I am getting at...I hope. If not, go play on the NSync board...

i fuckin love the beat angels. red badge is an awesome cd. when i'm in a good mood i always listen to that cd. everything about that cd rocks, music, lyrics (great lyrics), where i got it, when i got it, everything.
as for listening to songs for their lyrics, there are a lot of songs i listen to for the lyrics.

A prime example would be what? Come on Bill, you know this is really just a thread to spark a persons interest in a band or trigger somebody into listening to something again. Dammit man, play along.

Carl, if you're into cool lyrics and snotty attitudes. I'd highly recommend this CD and performer you've probably never heard of but who is amazing. Art Bergmann, he was from Vancouver and put out about 5 CD's. None released outside Canada. His CD's "Sexual Roulette" and "ART BERGMANN" were awesome. Take IGGY and old Paul Westerberg and blend them.
lyric from "Bound For Vegas"
I'm a never was trying to be a has been, has been on the comeback trail, trying to make it on the Vegas scene by the age of 50!"
Some more detail here was #42 Canadian album of all time on Chart Magazines website.

42. ART BERGMANN Sexual Roulette (Duke Street; 1989)
Blood from needles, phonograph and otherwise, drip from each primal and poetic track. No sweet songs for sale, these are Bergmann's tales of darkness culled from our deepest desires and dreams, bruised by life but still raging against the dying of the light. Since the late 1970s, his has been a gloriously gritty rock, the hissing cousin of Westerberg and Iggy, the soul shadow beside Neil and Cohen, a whirlpool of songs threatening to pull you under as they baptize. Not for safety seekers or those Bound For Vegas. For those who cling to rock so as not to sink into the depths. Art is salvation in a godless world.--James Muretich, rock critic, Calgary Herald

[B]<font size=3 color=purple>From a playing point of view I've always had a tendency to just hear the music ..I hear the vocals as another instrument and often I don't know what the lyrics are when playing songs til years later when I happen to read them..Of course this doesn't apply if I sing the song myself <img src="http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/icons/icon17.gif"

".com Together" by Clam Abuse might be one of those songs that I listen to mainly for the lyrics. The greatest computer love song ever.
My whole Leonard Cohen collection is due to his lyrics.
Apart from that, other great lyrics in my phonograph archive come with superb music...

sorry, here goes:
**Leaether Strip - Torture (a suicide note)
Death Ends All the Hurting
Death Stops My Inner Cries
Why Live In A Mad World
Why Chooke On All The Lies
Torture Taste Of Metal In My Mouth
Torture Let Me Pull The Trigger Now
Why Live I Am Worthless
No Room For My Dispair
No Loss For The Living
No One Would Care
**Stabbing Westward - Darkest Days
There are times when I'm just a shell
When I do not feel anything for anyone
All I feel is hollow and bruised
Used up and misused
Forced to be someone I don't want to be
Have I failed somehow or some way
Will the weight of today finally pull me down to drown
In the depths of despair
Where I am alone
Except for my rage
**Stabbing Westward - UnGod
You don't understand this
I think you never did
Silently I search for a reason to exist
I've found a way to feel you, I feel so fucking old
Your're burning up inside me, but I feel so fucking cold
You are clutched tight in my fingers
You caress my skin so light
You are welling up inside me
You have finally freed yourself
You are flowing 'cross my pale skin
You are running down my arm
You are salty as I taste you
I have finally made you warm
**Damian Rice - The Blowers Daughter
and so it is
just like you said it should be
we'll both forget the breeze
most of the time
and so it is the colder water
the blower's daughter the pupil in denial
i can't take my eyes off of you
did I say that I loathe you?
did I say that I want to
leave it all behind?
i can't take my mind off of you
my mind
'til I find somebody new
**Zeromancer - Famous Last Words
You never see me make
The same mistake twice
You never see a tear
Coming out of these eyes
You never see me beg
For another shot
And you never see me change
Into something I'm not
Famous last words
and so on and so forth.

I'm a lyrics guy myself.
Hince the Lyrics to Timmy and Myself's song RODENT which I wrote: it's about abortion...and how the baby feels about the whole thing.
Spooky somewhat, but something to make ya think.
a very scary song...vocal wise.
RODENT
Sick
Eating down to taste the spine
Love
Take the hate for there's no crime
Black
Like a thousand deaths have come
Life
Cut the pain as left undone
I see you
I bleed you
Pull the needles from my spine
I try you
I damn you
On the back of my mind
Just like the rodent living in a world of shit
Sick
Watch the world fall to die
Love
Pull the anger from my eye
Black
Burns the fire on the skin
Life
No God for we are sin
I see you
I bleed you
Pull the needles from my spine
I try you
I damn you
On the back of my mind
Just like the rodent livign in a world of shit
Sick
Love
Black
Life

Marc, cool lyrics, can't wait to hear that one. I'll try to catch you later.
Here are the two songs i mentioned to you before. The first one is the one you have the music to. It?s about a girl and a very beautiful boy (anyone know that reference?) actually it's about meeting someone, thinking they are the greatest thing ever and then over time the person changing. the song from there is pretty self explanatory.
by the way it has no name and probably never will
.
SONG 1:
things you said, you're never gonna say no more
things you did, as soon as you walked through that door
things you meant, you're never gonna mean again
things you had, will not help you
things you want, you're never gonna need no more
things you steal, are never gonna make you whole
things you see, will never seem the same again
things you dream, will only kill you
what you were, you're never gonna be no more
yesterday, my angel and my little
when you say, you only want a little more
my little doll, i'll always have you
mistakes you made, you're never gonna make again
those you need, are never gonna need you now
all the days, you're never gonna see again
things you did, should always hurt you
things i want, will never be the things i get
things i meant, im never gonna mean again
things i see, will always be of you and i
things i need, will never save me
things i said, im never gonna say no more
things you did, i'm never gonna be the same
the one you used, you're never gonna use no more
there you lay, you look so precious
you're not the one i used to know
you're not the one i used to know
you're not the one i used to know
you're not the girl i used to know
you're not the one i used to know
you're not the one i used to know
you're not the one i used to know
you're not the girl i
song two is the one that we are finishing next week. This one is call Summer of Waste and it's pretty self explanatory in its own right.
SUMMER OF WASTE:
the things ive done
gave my time my heart to someone
someone who took me just to use
to use and abuse
finally throwing me aside for something new
and as i lay disturbed
broken down and hurt
shattered my sense of being
me soul and believe
i want nothing i just want to be
now left alone
with my hate and my rage
my hurt and my pain
finally realize just what a fool i have been
as i lay in my summer of waste
