Okay, I went to the dyno and only put down 195 whp at 147 ft-lbs torque. I was pissed, but I was only reading 6 lbs of boost. When I left I started really watching the boost and fuel pressure. When I lay into it, the boost climbs to 8 and then suddenly drops to 6. I changed the belts and tightened them, but still, the same thing. I am wondering if the bypass valve could be opening under full boost. Has anyone had this problem? Oh, when the boost drops, as expected, so does the fuel pressure. Also, everything else on the car is perfect. Idle is perfect, the compression was 250 psi exactly in all four cylinders, and it feels strong until the boost falls off. I am also getting some smoke under heavy acceleration. I built a catch can off of the valve cover, but???

By the way, those numbers and problems are without nitrous.

Have you changed your exhaust system lately? When you use a less restrictive exhaust system, your boost (as indicated on the boost gauge) will drop, although you are still boosting what the pulleys intend you to boost.
For example, my JRSC runs 9 psi (using Jim's stepper). With my old exhaust, it would go to 9, then rise to 10 or even 11. With the new exhaust, it rises, then drops back down to about 8.

217 may have an idea on the exhaust. Dude, we were at Fuji's last Friday night when you and i guess your buddies left. Not bashing you or your car, but your car sounds like it has NO MUFFLER and about 6 exhaust leaks at one time. We didnt know what was going on. Whats up with that?
Also, last time i checked, all the ITR guys with JRSC's have had problems past 6000rpms due to the ECU dumping fuel all over place in the OE A/F maps. Not a bad thing, but most deff. a power problem. Maybe its also due to the combustion chamber size of the extreme N/A design of the ITR. If you have less room to cram air in there, less room for hp/boost ratio. Im no tuner/fixer by any means, just taking logical guesses.
You may not know me or remember me, but i had the green GSR with the JRSC. Last dyno at ACC was 256/181 on 9psi with 100octane. Your missing alota ponies somewhere......

Tony,
I think you need another Integra... or at least a Honda product. You have gotten far more combative since you got a Mustang. I am sensing some real "detachment" anger from you man... if you need a BIG HUG, I am here for you dude !!!
heheh
In any event, just to clarify your theory:
The combustion chamber size in a B16A/Type "R" is 42.5cc... the GSR chamber size is slightly SMALLER at 41.6cc. The real issues are the ECU dumping fuel and tossing in a ton of advanced timing in the higher rpm range and the overlap of the camshafts. Engine management plays a MAJOR role in extracting rightous HP from the B18C5 platform. Mike Marsey has reached over 270 wheel HP last time I heard from him using the Type "R" platform... and this is a fantastic feat.
Kevin,
Were you showing 8 psi all the way to redline with the current exhaust set-up you have installed on the car now ??? If not, this may simply be due to a more free-flowing exhaust. If so, the options are three-fold: you are experiencing some sort of belt slippage, or you have added another variable that you have NOT mentioned here (cam gear adjustments, intake changes, etc)... or your blower is damaged.

No man, its not that........its just been 4 or so years, and im watching everyone spend money on everything, yet there still isnt any progress forward made. Everybody "claims" how much power they got, but when its put up/shut up time, its 9.0@83mph in the 1/8th everytime. I know not much about cars, you remember me calling and killing your brain with what if's/why did's/what shoulds, dont you?! Sometimes the K.I.S.S. method is the best method.
My comment on the muffler thing was just that, a comment. I was making fun or laughing at anything, it DOES sound like there is an exhaust problem.
Good point on the camshafts, i forgot about the amount of overlap they had, he could be loosing boost by that, right?
Sorry i was/am a dick,
Tony

Well, I agree about the sound of the exhaust. I cant stand it. I am not sure what I had on it when you heard me, but I just changed from a P.O.S AcAutotechnic kevlar muffler to a flowmaster. I am still not real happy with it. I keep hearing a rattle sound. I put the car on the lift and checked everything. I cant find whats going on. And the thing about the less restrictive exhaust, okay, but the boost will go up to 8 and stay for a few seconds and then it falls back to 6? Plus, I was getting 9 and almost 10 at redline before. (may have been with stock exhaust???) The latest thing I have done is install an MSD with a blaster SS coil and cap mod. I changed the belts two times and tightened them up real good. I am pretty sure it is not the belts. I called keith at JR and he was trying to say it was maybe the MAP mod was messed up. I dont know how that would effect boost?
I went out to check the bypass valve, which keith swears could not be the problem, and whether its hooked up or not, the car runs exactly the same? Does anyone know what thier car does when this is un-hooked? In my general thinking, if I un-hook it, at idle I should be reading some boost, or at least less vacuume.
Tony, I cant remember. Where did I meet you? Do you run around with Mace?

Lokar. . . you said you just changed your muffler? If your boost drop happened right after the change, then IT IS NORMAL.
Mine did the same thing when I changed from a restrictive Dynomax Super Turbo to my Borla XS muffler.
-
No, it was doing this before I changed it. This is just frustrating. The car is running absolutly perfect, except this boost prob. PLUS, even if this is normal, what the hell, 195/147??? I made 225/193 with the nitrous and everything else (exhaust, intake, etc.) stock. Maybe I am just killing HP with gas. if I cant fix the problem I am putting on the stepper pulley and the cartech. Then I will spray the damn thing!
Oh well, I guess I will just go drive my blazer over some rocks instead.

No.
Are you checking BOTH belts? The SC to ALT. and the ALT. to Crank? I had alota issues with finding the right size belt for the ALT. to Crank. I found some "inbetween" sizes that were either too small, or to large. You would laugh if i told you how i got the too small belt to fit, so i will refrain It did work, and both belts usually lasted around 13,000miles.
Im gonna stick with the "losing boost through the aggressive cam overlaps" idea. Thats really the only thing i can think of.
Im just glad your gonna address that muffler issue! Car looks too clean to sound like that.....
