Gadd DVDs

While I've seen and heard small excerpts from Gadd's videos, would one or both be worth the purchase on DVD? Response appreciated.

I just got Steve Gadd Up Close and was a little disappointed. It's more of an interview than anything. Gadd has this weird, bewildered expression on his face through the whole thing, like he doesn't really want to be there. I got the vid for free, so I'm not complaining, but I'm not sure if I'd shell out 40 or 50 bucks for it.

Having said that, he does one thing while he's demonstrating a samba--he busts out really fast sixteenths with his left hand using a Moeller-esque technique. Some sick chops on the old Gaddmeister.

Both worth the price of admission as you can freeze frame, zoom, and do all the other things with a dvd you cant do with a video.
The picture quality is obviously better too.

Apart from some of those advantages, the EXTRAS on BOTH titles are great. Recommended imho.

What are the "extras/special features" on the Gadd DVDs?

Theres a Vinnie tune on one of them and two other gadd tunes.
The other dvd has a Virgil donati tune and also Gadd with Hidalgo. you can also download transcriptions i believe as its/they're interactive. Hope that helps....check out Hudsons site as they should have it listed on there. Hudsons site.

No seriously, if you're a big Gadd fan then definitely buy em'. Gadd is still my favorite drummer to this day simply because he is a master of groove with good chops to go with it. I love Vinnie, Dave and all those cats but they don't make me bob my head and tap my feet like Gadd does.

Anything with Gadd on DVD is well worth the price.

I have the video. Don't get me wrong; it's always cool to see Gadd play, I just wasn't blown away by the production. It sounds like the DVD is definately worth getting.

Up Close is worth getting, just to see him sing and play Bye Bye Blackbird with brushes, on a reel to reel tape box, being held by the interviewer!! Top stuff!

In sessions also worth getting for the Bass and drum Funk tune gadd and lee do together. Wills the S-hit on bass.(4me)
The montuno takes are great too..infact seeing gadd in a playing enviroment especially made FOR drummers is what makes it such a bargain when it comes to seeing a master....swinging grooving...funking...shufflin...Boppin...south americaning [img]smile.gif[/img]

Come on..these are two of the Best vids/dvds EVER put out there for drummers. support steve and buy one today!
