After contemplating for months, I finally decided to make a 3" filter on a stick intake. I originally planned to construct a 3" CAI, i.e. Injen, but I didn't want to spend $180+ for an intake. After weighing all the opinions many people have agreed that the filter on a stick is the way to go w/ the SC. I'm going to eventually build a heat sheild next to the filter to eliminate the heat from the radiator fan. The whole project cost about $70 in parts. Here are some picts:

I'm very pleased that this project was simple, yet very effective. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Looks great Zip http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Even matches the car.

Looks good man. Let us know what the results are on this!!!

basically i had this same dilema, and what i came up with is a give or take situation, My Jr Intake will be here on tuesday, so i'll be getting rid of the chopped up AEM CAI, basically, filter on a stick, is going to pull in hot air, unless you do some tricky stuff to bring cool air into the engine bay. But on the other hand a cai, is going to be tubulent, and not work well with the supercharger... I will dyno both aem cai, and JR Intake after nopi, when i go get some dyno time for my SAFC.........

Dyno with the hood closed.

Dynoing with the hood closed does not represent real world driving conditions at all. If anything, the hood open with air blowing on the engine is closer to real world conditions.
Do you think you have no air circulating in the engine bay at 60 mph?

Thanks for the compliments guys. I'm going to post picts of the heat sheild as soon as I get it installed. 00ITR006: I would like to see dyno plots on the intake too. Make sure you have the hood open because there will be too much heat soak when the radiator fan turns on during your dyno runs.

Nice work zip.
Does anyone have any dyno pulls that demonstrate a filter on a stick is better than a CAI on a SC'd car?
-
Zip,
The finish on that tube looks great. What exactly did you use... inside and out ???

All the materials I used were from my new performance shop, Home Depot. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif The white ceramic paint is a 1200 degree Rust-Oleum spray paint and the blue paint is from Rust-Oleum's metallic cobalt blue spray paint. I used JB weld to connect the 1/8" thick support bracket (tie bracket used for roofing).
