OK before I forget this is a topic which I was going to post on a few days ago but have yet seem to have found the time until now. So ***hurring before something else interrups me**** anyhow here we go.
Everyone remember the Funeral topic I posted on well a side tanget from that was that the old lady who died was about 70 yrs old and she had spent a long time with her husband. Which in this day and age is getting harder and harder to find. Any then someone posted that they could not imagine them selves not crying at the funeral. Which made me wonder.... in the way in which each attach ourselves to other people and form bonds, has anyone EVER really found a soul mate?
I mean I know I have had strong friendships and even some relationships I thought were never ever going to end..... But I mean has anyone here ever found or had that SOULMATE. That in excapable person that no matter what you go thru, where you end up, etc they are always there and have never left your side.
I a world full of billions of people it is hard to think that with travel being so easy now a days and people meeting people from all over the world, that a soulmate would be your next door neighbor. But on the flip side, why not. I mean if you were destined to find one, then why not one that is close. Or is the whole term SOULMATE an illusion created by a person who is just so honest and caring as a person they will always be there creating the illusion that there are people out there that could be a second half or mirror to the person we are.
You see it in movies and your read about it in books. People finding each other usually by accident or by some odd reason and then never parting for the rest of days. Is it fair to sit back and wait for that soulmate to come along or should one seek them out. I mean how would you know except thru time you have found that 1 person. But if you don't look then aren't you really cheating yourself? I mean nothing is ever half as fun as sharing that something with someone who thinks exactly like you or would find as much fun in it as you do.
The Dictionary describes Soul Mate as :
---someone for whom you have a deep affinity
Yet the Thesaurus lists it as:
Entry: friend
Function: noun
Definition: confidant
Synonyms: acquaintance, ally, alter ego, amigo, associate, bedfellow, blocker, boon companion, bosom buddy, brother, buddy, chum, classmate, cohort, colleague, companion, compatriot, comrade, confrere, consort, countryman, cousin, crony, familiar, fellow, intimate, kissing cousin, little brother, main man, main squeeze, mate, other self, pal, partner, playmate, roommate, schoolmate, sidekick, sister, soul mate, spare, well-wisher
Concept: friendship
Funny though I don't think any of those words could replace or be used in place of Soul Mate. Anyhow your ideas here will keep me thinking as always.

Well CYA I'll give it a shot. I don't believe there are nessacarily soulmates since noone can say what happens to the soul after death or as some cyincs wonder if there even is such a thing as a soul. I do believe there are possibly lifemates that are the ones that fit so pefectly into our lives that we would be very miserable if we lost them. Consider this how many times have you heard some one say that they found their soulmate only later to say "Boy was I wrong"?

Autumn Unicorn... good post though I am not sure you have to believe in "souls" to have a soul mate. It is kind of like swearing with Gods name in vain though not believing in god. As for people saying they "had one" and then being wrong that is the root I am getting at. Has anyone here had one.. or I guess in this case found one and lost due to death or still has them?
What I want to know is with all lifes quests and worries of dying or ending your life in the end and having no one by your side when you leave you could say was with you though it all, wouldn't it be sort of a goal to try to find that one person you could call your own... soulmate.. lifemate etc?
With all the people that get into phylosophy in here I was wnating to get their point or opinion on what they thought of the term and how it relates to life. Not to exclude any others but to somehow gather info from everyone and how they felt about the term and with it Put up in BRIGHT LITES now how they felt knowning they have lived this long and do or do not have one (soul mate)

well cya i feel bad for u thinkin it was a long post and it just being my siggy so i'll attempt a longer answer.
Maybe there is no such thing as a soul mate but maybe just someone that u get along with really well and have true love for,or maybe people are just so into the whole soul mate thing that they spend their entire life lookin for that certain someone only to miss them in their quest. I don't personally beleive in soul mates. I believe in love and true love but my belief of soul mates was shattered when i thought i had found mine and in the end he turned out to be in plain english a huge dick.Maybe i was just to quick to judge who knows till it happens.

Well if we're talking in the way of friends that have never or would never leave my side...
Hayley and Jarryd.. and if only one, Hayles...
-
Okay CYA now that I Know what you were after I feel that I know of two couples and hopefully three that meet the criteria. One was my in-laws when My father in-law died she was shattered and while she has dated for friendship None of us ever see her getting into a serious relationship. Second is my father he and my step-mother were the perfect match and let everyone know it and while Dad hopes to again find love no one could ever fill his heart like she did. As for couple number three it is my husband and I we're at 6 years and still happy but it's still to soon to tell. I let you know in about another twenty years. LOL

OK now that you say you know someone who has a soul mate... what made that person different then any other in the way that no other to taker their place??

For me a soulmate/lifemate highlights your attributes and counters your shortcomings, the willingness to compromise and grow together plays a very large part. I've seen a lot of people end up separating not out of any major disagreement but because thy have just developed in different ways. Another thing I've seen is that pure adoration that comes in the early part of a relationship never really fades it just seems to become deeper and take on a more subtle edge be it in friendship or romance. Of course for the person in the relationship there's that unexplainable feeling of something just clicks.
