I was hoping I could get some opinions on a new rough demo of my band. I know all of you guys are top notch drummers and I think you could lend some good criticism to my playing and the composition of this song.
This is a demo of a song that will be on our next album with the working title "chord song"...

I think the drums were done in 1 take, were unclicked and very loose, but purposefully so. We want the next album to have an organic sort of feel to it. Aside from a few fills that were semi-rushed/dragged lemme know if you have any other suggestions.
This is just drums/bass/guitar...no vocals yet.

Re: the tune, I personally have no criticism to offer at all. I think the drumming is sounds great!
I'd be VERY interested to hear this tune once the vocals are done. The "A" sections seem a little empty but I assume that's by design for the vocals.
"B" section is killer, love the open hat spashes.

Excellent Work Omni. I really enjoyed the space that you left. Your dynamics are really appropriate to the song's mood. I love the sound of your primaries (Kick, Snare, Hi-hat). But on occasion your first rack sounds a tad choked. It may have been your attack on a few of the hits, because it is not consistent through the tune that way. (By the way, I loved the fills at 1:13 and 1:23.) Look forward to hearing it when it has the vocal track. Keep up the good work.

I checked out your whole website Omni- well done. Nice recording you posted as well, you have a really good feel between the bass player and yourself. The first tom's weakness is only perceptible to a drummer's ear. I saw a couple of pictures where you had an older Sonor kit- why not record with that? I saw you were schooled at Berklee, when and how long? Was it worth it- if you can say so at this point in time?

Well that Sonor kit was a studio kit which I don't own. I wish I could use something nicer but I don't have the funds...
About Berklee...I could go off on Berklee for an hour or so and I have to run to work so I will tell you about Berlee a little later.

Very nice job Will. I am also interested to hear the final mix with the vocals. I pretty much agree with DeFields (of Gold) (sorry) [img]biggrin.gif[/img] on this one....great job all round. Keep it coming!

Heheh...I agree completely with that first rack tom.
I am playing on an old 72 vistalite kit that has warbled bearing edges and goes out of une very easily. Man, the sweet spots on those drums are about the size of a pinhole and you really gotta whack them to bring out any sort of tone so i porlly missed it a bunch of times. I'd be nice to re-record the song on a decent set of toms but again it's only a demo.
Those things are a bitch to play on but a definite challenge. They do look badass though...

Great job! Really nice approach to the music. I love that you're doing "old school" hihat technique in a prog-rock tune during the A section. Well done!

Hey Omni,
I checked out your band's website and downloaded your drum solo video. You have really nice feel and dynamics! I love the Garibaldi/Gadd beat with the ghost notes. Great job! Keep it up!
