This war might be about oil after all......

I know you thought you'd never here this from me but I think this war may have something to do with oil after all.

I have discovered a fantastic, informative, and wholly frightening website on the topic of Peak Oil. I was, and still am, totally shocked by what I read. It's scary, thought provoking, and probably all true.

Granted its a website and we ALL know if it's on the internet, it MUST be true. But the statements are sourced (reliably) and documented.

Read and I'd really like to discuss.

Sorry but maybe Monday Jumper. I read the intro and it's Friday, I don't need to think such gloomy thoughts going into the weekend....

While I don't think the situation is as dire as he thinks it is going to be, I believe that if we do not find a new energy source soon, then there will be some major problems, along with a population shrinkage, but not as horrible as that guy says it will be, but people lived just fine before oil, humans can adapt.

If not, only the strong will survive.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">But see, that's what this guy is saying Raven. What energy source. The available ones we know about today are not being mass produced on a scale large enough to replace fossil fuels. That's the point.

As far as how horrible this guy makes it sound versus what you said, I ask you this: How much population "shrinkage" is acceptable? Which population? Since we consume 25% or more of the worlds oil it only stands to reason that WE will suffer the population shrinkage.

Now granted, this guy is pretty gloom and doom but what he says makes sense to me. I took some time last night to explore the links on the site and I read a lot of the articles looking for reasons to discredit what he's saying. My conclusion was that if it was only this kid claiming this, I'd blow it off. But there are too many people with too many credentials that are saying similar or like things. Granted some of the articles were written by people to the left of Mother Teresa but by and large they were written by reputable sources.

Are they exactly right? Probably not. But I do believe what they are saying is likely to happen and probably the beginning will be in my lifetime. I am more and more happy that I do not have children.

I've seen that theory discussed on other boards, Jumper, and agree it seems to have some validity. I've never fully investigated it, though, because we're more concerned with the coming ice-age theory, which seems to be supported by this.

But it all can be tied together without too much difficulty.

Not poking fun at all, Jumper.

I truly believe that we're in the end times, which I define as the end of civilization as we know it.

When I first heard about the coming ice age I thought it was just something else from the tin-foil hat crowd, but there is some very credible science behind the theory, and some supposedly credible sources (the Pentagon) have issued white papers on it.

For those who don't know, the theory is that within the next 10 to 20 years the northern portion of the hemisphere will experience a mini ice age. My first thought was "sorry for them", but then the implications started sinking in. Imagine Russia with no winter wheat.

You worry about the oil; trav and I will worry about the ice age. [img]wink.gif[/img]
