Arrived today along with jake kot's disc and greg howe's, which i have yet to listen to.
but i have listened to almosy all of the weckl disc and it is without doubt his BEST work to date. Yes, weckl is weckl, and anyone who has been to a live show knows what their in for.....but what the band have put to tape is absolutely incredible.
dave is playing better than ever and his touch and feel on some of the slower tunes and the swing stuff is awesome. the band are on fire and are finally being a little more creative with tracks such as the sax&drum intro and the bass duet with tom kennedy with are nothing short of stunning.
the thing that makes me so enthusiastic about this cd is not the drumming alone....its the MUSIC, the interplay and communication between these wonderful musicians.
plus, dave is carrying on the tradition that people such as buddy rich left behind.....taking YOUR band playing YOUR music around the world and putting out cd's etc is a feat in itself!
Hats-off and thank you to Mr Dave Weckl!!

I ordered LIVE & VERY PLUGGED IN because of Mr. Holmes' recommendation and a few samples I heard that sound cleaner than Weck's studio albums. After your glowing testimonial, louie, I'm really pumped now.
Here's an odd question: Why is it in HOD we all refer to Vinnie by his first name and Weckl by his last?
-
Because the world is full of Daves.
-
Yeah, but Vinnie can be confused with Vinny Appice or Vinnie Paul. His name, not his chops, that is.
-
Vinnies the only guy who has 'Chops' before and after a Gig though. A Big plate of'em!
-
Mmmm, pork chops sound good. Drumming always makes me hongry!

Louie, I agree 100%. This is an incredible release from Weckl, and easily the best one I've heard to date. I had NO idea Tom Kennedy smoked THAT hard!!! Good God. He studied at the Jaco school for bass, and does it better than anyone I've ever heard. ....and he's CLEAN. Of course, so is that whole band. You know, I love when bands play loose, but when a band is as good as Weckl's is, tight never sounded so good! I'm not sure I've ever heard a tighter live unit. To any HOD'ers who do not yet have this release.....GET IT!!!

"Waiter, for dessert how about Sheila E.?"
"No sir, fresh out."
"Samantha Maloney?"
"Tommy Lee finished that off."
"How about Cindy Blackman?"
"No, sir."
"Patty Schemel?"
"Courtney Love was here first. All we have is a leftover piece of Gina Schock."
"Sounds good, I'll have that."
"Anything else, sir?"
"Yeah, have you got a to-go box?"
