A few days before Charley made a mess of Florida, Trav was musing about moving back.
Then just last night we decided we needed to make a road trip to South Carolina to decide if it's a viable retirement spot.
Charley. Gaston.
Coincidence? You decide.
That is a little bit spooky

For quite some time the southeastern United States has experienced a relatively calm period with regards to hurricanes. In that time period, areas like Florida have grown dramatically.
Should hurricane patterns return to the way they were during the earlier parts of the last century, the devastation will be remarkable.

If this storm stays on this track , the eye will pass about 25 miles north of my last house in Florida. When I built the house it was rated for 145 mph winds.
Located on the third dune (1st dune is the barrier islands)
Wood construction
Front faces southeast exposing the roof slope to the wind coming on shore
Studs 1 x 6 18" on center
Plywood siding (not press board)
All porch and overhangs cantilevered and integrated with the roof and floor trusses
Double hurricane straps at all joints
I wonder what will happen if it makes landfall as a category 5? Not that I want this to happen, as my youngest son lives about 5 blocks from there.
Hi from Tampa!!!
I'm outta here Friday night. This looks like it might get interesting. Maybe I'll stay just to see what it's like!

If you are implying that we should stay in Cincinnati, I just might have to ban you.
