I-40 asphalt

*the following is a post about the particular
new asphalt that had recently been laid down
on I-40, a two-lane (each direction) highway
between conway and little rock....
i do not know if other areas have the same
asphalt... so if this is the case... speak up*

what in the fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck is up
with the asphalt on I-40????

there is some type of glaze or shiny shit
on/in it that makes it look like its
consistantly wet...

this is most noticable at night... when the
lights from other cars reflect down and
glare....

it literally looks like it had just rained...
and rained hard. is it the new asphalt's
'newness'??? i mean, will it wear down over
a period of time... becoming that bland,
muted slate gray again??

i can't fucking see with this new shit.
as some of you know, I-40 is undergoing
massive reconstruction... (not only in the
conway area... but also in NLR)... but what
makes this new asphalt bullshit... is that
the lights from other cars reflect off
the asphalt in addition to the reflection
of the SAME lights on the orange and white
barrels. this is highly distracting....

as i was coming home tonight... in addition
to the distracting glare of the lights on
the asphalt due to the vehicles and barrels,
there was also a cocksucking trooper that
had pulled someone over...

like most badged dicks, the trooper kept
his lights flickering while on the side
of the road. i was in the right-hand lane...
i simply couldn't see the fucking road in
front of me due to the reflection of those
blue, white, and yellow lights off the
fucking 'glazed' highway.

for some reason, in my momentary disillusionment,
i had wondered if the fucking cop was even
off on the side of the road. i didn't have
much time before i came upon the scene,
so all of this happened in about 20/30 seconds.

i simply couldn't see WHERE the god-damned
cop was sitting -- ON the highway??? on the
side of the road??? i just couldn't tell.

so i decided to merge into the left lane
just in case something gay was up.

naturally the cop was on the grass....
but due to the FUCKING GLARE of the asphalt,
i just couldn't tell.


if anyone local knows wtf i'm talking about,
or anyone that has experienced some asphalt
similar or something, PLEASE PLEASE let me
know wtf is going on.

Man, that is wacked. I'll see it firsthand next month though.

hmmm.. sounds a bit like the zoab stuff we're using here, which is pretty neat stuff, but indeed looks like it's always wet and is very dangerous when it freezes.

Since my dad is in charge of that whole construction area...the area around the Levi area anyways, i will ask him what he knows about it. i do know that the asphalt will eventually "dull" down and become that grey color you were talking about.

i also know this, asphalt is cheaper than concrete to use in road construction, but as with most things, you get what you pay for....

therefore, the road might be great now, it might be smooth as anything, but within i would say 5 years, the slow lane will once again begin getting the "bumpy ruts" that resemble whoop (sp?) sections.

but i see if the asphalt being used is an enhanced version of the same asphalt used in the past. I do know that occassionaly the government "tests" no mediums to pave roadways, i'm not sure if this is one of those situations or not.

if you get time.... drive from conway to mayflower
and back.... at night....

you will see what i'm talking about

why in the world would i need to drive to mayflower at night?

i was giving alison a hard time about this topic last night....but i do know what she is talking about.


dj...are they making that portion of I-40 (from 430 into North Little Rock) into three lanes or are they just repaving it?
