I bet you could cook up a pot of cicadas and make an interesting dish. [img]graemlins/dish.gif[/img]

You can eat cicadas raw right off the bush or ground. I can't wait! When they are out full force I don't pack a lunch for that whole week. I just walk over to fountain square and eat for free. [img]graemlins/thumbs_up.gif[/img]

Well, they make a neat crunching noise when you squish 'em or squash 'em or crush 'em or stomp 'em or scrunch 'em...


But, they are harmless to humans other than being a complete annoyance. Looks like they expect the bulk of the cicadas to be west of I-71 during their 4 to 6 week visit to the Greater Cincinnat Area.

While it seems like yesterday, we had a cicada invasion the year I graduated college. 17 years ago [img]confused.gif[/img] We had another cicada event in 1991 but it wasn't as pronounced. I think they are really cute bugs, can't imagine why some people go out of their way to step on them when they don't hurt anything and have so little time to live as it is. [img]graemlins/whatever.gif[/img]

They are just pests and really serve no purpose whatsoever. But they dont last very long and we wont have to mess with a large group of them again for a while.

But seriously, every living creature serves a purpose, even if it does not directly benefit us. Birds, frogs and other small animals really have a feast when the cicadas come out as it boosts their protein intake significantly.

You have to wonder what will happen with some of the summer events schedules to take place during Cicada time. I'm sure they wont cancel any of the major ones, but I wonder if they'll make any changes in location or maybe even go indoors.

These thing are what, 100x the size of a love bug? Shit...death to all bugs.

Any of the parks that offer outdoor ceremonies for weddings are making people sign a waiver stating that they are aware of the cicada "issue" and hold the park harmless. i'm not sure why, but I find that highly amusing.
